I have Headmen headers on my 340.

The question is, the #5 and 7 spark plug wires are VERY CLOSE to the header tubes.

What is the best way to get the plug wires in there and protect them???

Should I order two of those spark plug wire/boot enginered protector's(good til 1200F*) to slide over the wires????

Thanks,

Shane!

Order the 45 degree plug ends (msd) from summit or jegs put on your self. Looks good and keeps wires away from headers.Kevin.

If you are purchasing new wires MSD sells a multi-angle plug boot. Then on 5 and 7 you bend the boot at 90 degrees and route the wires under the header tube instead of in between. I also slipped the fiberglass protectors on those wires.

The first set of wires I had in between the tubes and even with the fiber glass protectors I cooked those two wires in a couple of months. Since routing them under the tubes I have 3.5 years and about 25k miles with no issues.

THIS IS THE WAY TO GO. I HAVE ALWAYS USED TAYLOR WIRES WITH THE STRAIGHT BOOTS & ORDERED 2 SEPARATE WIRES WITH THE 45 DEGREE BOOTS. I'M NOT FOND OF THE HEAT SLEEVING.

Thanks guys!

I was thinking of going with MSD wires. I'll look into getting the 45 degree plug ends..

You guys were absolutly right!

I had msd 8.5 wires, I bought some boot ends and 6 feet of wire, put two 90 degree boots on number 5,7, and went under the header. Its funny how simple and easy something is after you've done/seen it. The car idles, starts and runs much better.... I may have been not running on all cylinders, or not 100% on all cylinders before...

I didn't like the "Under the header route" but the 45* ends, vari ends work great. Currently I have 2 - 90* ends and the wire is to short. I just overlapped them. There not cross fireing .... yet...LOL

I made the two wires myself(first time doing so, and was bad at all) next time I will buy just bulk wire and connectors.. and they are the perfect length, and not over lapping, So I am hoping they will behave for a long long long time....
