Help spec'ing out a new small block

Ok Dumb question time. But what is the Dirrence between a X block and a R3 block. I just found a guy on face book selling a brand-new in the crate mopar X block.
 
Check into it to see exactly which one it is.
If it suites….. Get it!

The “X” block was MoPars first race block. Very good piece.

There is a reason that block has been for sale for a LONG time. He also has W5’s with wide valve covers for sale for a LONG time. Same pictures with different names. I would be cautious
 
If it’s an unmolested virgin 2 bolt block it’s probably worth it.

A 4 bolt block I would pay a grand less because the caps should be changed and that ain’t cheap.
What was the reason you would change the four bolt main caps? Were they just regular cast iron?

They are really good ductile iron caps, but I’d rather have the billet caps that Ritter makes for his blocks. Not only are they stronger but they make the block stronger.

Plus, his later blocks using his caps have the register moved to the outside of the cap. So there is no step between the inner and outer bolts.

I forget now and if I think of it I’ll ask Kent about it but somehow moving the register from between the two bolts.

I’m not a smart man but I’m betting less stress. Or let’s say needless stress. The way Ritter is doing it may help limit cap walk.

Thanks to all of the information shared in this thread, I have decided to run what I got in Vegas at the end of this month in their season opener and decide if I want to make any changes before my season here starts in April. If I do make any changes, it will probably be limited to cam, heads and intake.

I have a set of Victors that have been on back order for 6 months. If and when I get them, they will go to PBR along with a new Super Victor intake to get worked. I have also been doing some research on other heads including the Brodix B1 BA MC's and Indy 360-1's. I like the fact that Indy offers a complete top end kit with their ported heads (loaded) and intake and the flow numbers are impressive. I would need a new set of headers but otherwise everything else I have should work just fine. The beauty with running Victors, BI BA MC's or 360-1's is if I ever did decide to get an aftermarket block, either one of these heads would be perfect.

I sent a request to Indy for a quote a few days ago and got a response from them yesterday (New Years Day). They currently have a 1 week lead time (which is great!) but did just raise their prices by about $1000 for the full meal deal. Something to think about for sure but I probably would have jumped all over it at the old price. I'll post the spec sheet they sent with the quote later today. For some reason it won't pull up on my phone now so I will have to edit this post on my PC when I get home.

I had mine tested @ .650 lift they come in at 361.5 no port work done
 
I guess I have to port my heads now....can't get smoked by Bill.
 
Ask them to drill the extra holes for 10 bolt or the inner bolts Kent Ritter had a go at them the inner holes are drilled & tapped from the bottom like a Hemi setup (No Good) I drill my own using a long series drill bit bloody hard material lots of coolant used
 
As cast.... Can you imagine after PGR gets done fingering them? lol

Ok I said I was out on this post but I better clear a few things up. Number one those heads are already cnc ported as delivered. Number two you better get an after market block so the valves clear the cylinder walls.
