I've had a few girls that I was in the same situation with :)
On a more serious note, did you figure anything else out with your car?
A few pics of the engine bay, and a video of it running would give a lot of people on here a lot more info to help you.

Lol..well.. Lemme just say... I drove her today..into a shop..they said they would be happy to give her the.."once over" of course..it'll cost me $ out of pocket..that i just don't have right now..just to get a damn estimate.. Any way.. She was ruining.." Ok"..i was still having to double pedal her at stops..to keep her running..then..bam...she backfired.. and from then on out..she ran shitty.. I was lucky to get get back to my mom's..

There has to be somebody on here close enough to look at your car. I'm willing to bet that the people on here that know their stuff (I won't pretend I'm one of those) would spend 20 minutes and know what the problem is. Again, a video would help immensely. I don't think you can post vids on here, you'd have to set it up on youtube and link it.

There are many on here (I'm one, but I don't have near the knowledge some on here have) that love helping someone out with one of these cars. A video of it running, and with the engine when it's running, would go a long way If I were you, I wouldn't pay someone before you can do that.

Have you found assistance to diagnose and repair your car as yet? Concerned friends would like to know. Have a good weekend.

No.. The thing that sucks is..because I'm dealing with the person who was at fault and her insurance..i need an inspection and estimate..everyone wants cash up front that i just don't have right now at a hundred plus an hour.. I'm kinda stuck behind a rock and a hard place.

Videos! We need videos! I thought of another thing that would be easy for you to check: make sure the firing order of the spark plug wires is correct.

maybe this was discussed and i missed it. her insurance needs to get the car back to what it was before she hit you. that includes mechanically. do you have a shop for the bodywork? they should have a mechanic in house or mobile they use. have you talked to her company and told them it does't run right since she hit you? could be a pinched fuel line. have it towed if you need to, but get it in a shop, and have them give the estimate FOR EVERYTHING to her company and get it fixed
why does everyone want cash up front for a job an insurance company is paying for?

      good luck

also, does your insurance company know anything about this? they need to. if you had full coverage they'd cover everything but the deductible and go after the other company to get that back. but if not, they should at least be helping you out with advice. i don't know what company you or her have, but i've found it's crap like this that makes it worth not paying the bottom feeders. you should not be paying for an estimate for an insurance job

      hope this works out

Best thing to do is make sure everything is in spec. "I" would start with a compression test. Just to rule out any coincidences. I mean, if something has cause a cylinder to drop, and "just happened" at the same time as the accident, you'll be chasing your tail unless you verify all 8 have good compression. Then from there, I would check timing, points if it has them, Of course checking the compression means you have the plugs out so they would be inspected at that time. Put a vacuum gauge on it. Make sure it has a good vacuum signal. All of this is relatively easy to do, if you can operate a screwdriver. lol You just need to take each thing step by step, one at the time and you can find the problem yourself, without having to worry about some bullshitter dishonest "mechanic" getting over on you.

check crank endplay. is the balancer jammed forward and not able to move back and forth? possibly something in the trans snapped and it pushing forward causing extra pressure on the thrust bearing. had an old wagon that had that problem; ran like it needed the carb rebuilt or plugs changed. hope not in your case but is a possibility.

All great advise! Thanks guys! I only have liability sadly.. But yeah..i agree.. If her insurance has claimed 100% fault and etc..any shop should be more than happy to look at her. I just decided to call a classic automotive repair shop and say..hey..i need an estimate on these things.. This is what i have...this is what needs to be done..and...there..send it to me..we'll see where that gets me.m

Excellent choice! I hope all goes well. Please let us busybodies know what is discovered. If parts are needed, please be aware that the members here have access to most any part necessary. Many members may have what is needed in their stash.

I sure will!! And Thank you! Speaking of parts..lol.. I really would like to get the sure grip rearend under her! Right now she's got the little one. I know.. it's a big bulky part..and anyone who would have one that was willing to part with it would have to be fairly local.. But..that's down the road.. First things first..
