Here we go again: Canadian wildfires.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Fortunately the area of the province we are in is a river valley and concerns are more with grass fires.

Flin Flon and Nopoming are hundreds of miles away and both are heavily forested.

The fires on the east side have impacted mainly cottage areas and evacuations earlier were fortunately for most a precaution as there is usually one route in and out.

The fire near Flin Flon hopefully will avoid the town, and most have been evacuated due to the heavy smoke.

It's been a dry spring, and we are all hoping for some rain soon.

Ok out here in Southern Alberta thus far. I was just reading about the situation in Northern Manitoba, plus the Whiteshell area in eastern Manitoba/Northwest Ontario.
Somehow I connected you and Winnipeg in my head. Due to the Jets, maybe? Anyway, glad to hear you’re still ok, as it would really suck to have to evacuate on your birthday.

Tornado watch AND Flash flood through 20;00

Must be an interesting front line coming

Looks like you guys in PA have angry weather inbound

I'm originally from Winnipeg, thats probably why.
Out in southeast Alberta today, Medicine Hat specifically and it's a fair bit smoky today.

Yeah, we were eating some of that bad air **** earlier today as the air quality index was “up there”. Thankfully the wind picked up and pushed it out a bit….

Don’t think I’ll be doing much outdoors today.

Which is really odd, as it’s raining right now, and one would think the rain would “scrub” the air.

Sucks, but you do what you gotta do to deal with it and stay safe, I guess.

And as much as it sucks for those of us that live “downwind “, I keep telling myself that we’re only “affected”, and not “involved”…..

Best of luck to all who are “involved”.

Agree.

Here's to the crews working

Same here. We finally had a half day of rain here and it had a negligible effect on the smoke in the air. Amazing how far it travels. I remember small amounts of volcanic ash landing here and the yellow sky's back in 1980 when Mt. St. Helen's let go. That's over 2000 miles away.

Thoughts with those directly affected.

ya, it’s bad up here. Lots of evacuations going on. Our little town is getting filled up fast with the now homeless people. Kim

Yikes! We are at 129 here and outdoor activities aren't recommended. I might wear a mask. I have to mow the lawn. It is way too long!

Unhealthy

Fine Particulate Matter are inhalable pollutant particles with a diameter less than 2.5 micrometers that can enter the lungs and bloodstream, resulting in serious health issues. The most severe impacts are on the lungs and heart. Exposure can result in coughing or difficulty breathing, aggravated asthma, and the development of chronic respiratory disease.

Its even smoky here and the air quality is mediocre. I managed to get up on the roof and fix some wind damaged shingles from the weekend.

Are there no conspiracy theories about these "wildfires"? I've lived in the same place in upstate New York for 55 years and never smelled or even heard of Canada wildfires until last year when my whole area was blacked out by Canada smoke. But the local news stations dismisses them as a normal occurrence every year. And the aerial videos showing "lightning" striking the ground six times in a straight line just isn't mathematically possible....

I feel bad for the people up there and don't wish this on anyone, but something just doesn't seem right.

I’m up “there”
The one near my place was suspected “human cause”. Atv or a tossed cigarette. The next big one 25 miles north of me was lightning, a worker on night shift at the mine caught it on video. All the ones further north are assumed to be one or the other.depending on location.
