It’s Fiat’s influence. They insisted that the Cherokee be brought back and then insisted that Chrysler stuff Fiat engines and technology into it.

Fiat always wanted Jeep to market World wide but were too arrogant to realize what made Jeep great was Chrysler engineering...not theirs. Now they are paying the price for their arrogance.

Let them reap what they have sown.

My co-worker is a die hard jeep guy, he ownes a couple of dozen of about every jeep made from the Ford GPW, to MB, alot of CJ's, Scramblers, one of the first JK 4 doors sold in WV.
His wife has one, when he bought it, he got the most extended warrantee he could buy, he said the day the warrantee is expired, it goes down the road.
Its in the shop at least once every month for a bad sensor in the trans.
He said there is over 20 sensors in the trans in that jeep.

Every body has an opinion. My wife has a 2017 Cherokee Latitude V6 and it's one of the best cars we have ever owned. Better fuel mileage than our 2012 RAV4 4 cylinder runt. Jeep brakes act like brakes, firm pedal, serious stopping power. The RAV4 felt like you were stepping on a foam mattress, dealer said they all were like that. The Cherokee is much more stable and handles 100% better than the RAV4. Interior comfort and finishing is very nice. The 9 speed transmission is a little shifty at times but it's the reason our Cherokee V6 easily gets 32 MPG on the highway and very snappy acceleration when you need it.

Seems like the 2019 RAV4 has the Cherokee beat in the bad car comparison........

2017 was different engineering than the 2019 the OP posted.

My point was that the 2019 Cherokee still comes out way above the same year "Toyota" RAV4, in a very similar number of reviews. Just because there is a hate on for Fiat doesn't mean all their vehicles are junk.......... Every manufacturer is struggling with technology trying to beat the competition. The problem is they aren't stepping up to the plate to resolve problems like they should, but that's nothing new!

I don’t hate Fiat taking over Chrysler and never did...but I do recognize poor management decisions when I see them...and Fiat screwed up on the Cherokee.

They should have left it in the hands of the Chrysler engineers.

And honestly, who cares how they come out compared to the rest? The only standard to meet is the customer’s expectations...not the competition’s best effort.

Being the finest hockey player in all of Egypt doesn't make you World class....just the best of the worst.

I'm in a Trailhawk group, and a lot of the people buying the 2019 are already experiencing problems. One guy has been dealing with issues for four months now without resolution.

On a side note I love my 14 Trailhawk!

We don't have a Cherokee but we do own a 2018 Compass Trailhawk. We love it. Very comfortable. It's very nice to drive as well. Thus far, no issues with anything. The 9 speed auto is a bit annoying at times. That's it for the gripes.

Makes me ask the question, how many gears/speeds does a transmission really require to be "efficient"? Nine seems like overdoing it a little to me.

The answer is that maximum efficiency is achieved by an infinite selection of transmission gear ratios. That’s why continuously variable transmissions are the ultimate goal. However, CVT technology hasn’t advance enough yet to make it universal.

You get maximum efficiency when engine HP and torque are held in their most efficient RPM range with the transmission adjusting for the speed and acceleration demand.

My Cuda at one time, had an A833od with a GVod behind it used as a splitter;for 7 useable speeds. Worked pretty cool with 4.30s, and a 223* cam.. But in the end, the 367 didn't need all those gears. Five woulddabin plenty.
Currently it has a Commando box and still the GVod, now optionally used as a splitter.... but mostly just used as a 5-speed.
But consider that this is in a 3650# vehicle, with really torquey367.
My Orlando, also 3600pounds, has a 6speed automatic, 2.5 liter VVT 4-banger; that would hardly be driveable with a 3-speed auto, even with 220psi cranking cylinder pressure. I was watching the tach the other day; At normal throttle application, it drops about 500 to 600 rpm on the shifts.
My earlier Cuda combo dropped about 750 when shifted at 3400.

My wife has a 2017 compass and loves it, hers is a stick shift.

I talked to another co-worker this week and his wife has a newer Cherokee and they really like it, no problems but he said the transmission sometimes starts shifting real weird.

Look up something called "daf variomatic"
There are springs in the front drums that move out as they spin, changing the ratio, making it infinitely adjustable

9th gear is pretty much useless. My Cherokee Trail Hawk never gets into 9th unless I manually shift it there. Not enough power to keep it there. 3.2 litre V6. Cruises mostly in 8th. Sometimes in 7th. Still makes decent mileage. I never check the gear ratio, but I think I would be more happier with lower gears and then the tranny would use 9th gear and still be efficient. Kim
