Historic plates on you vehicles

You might also want to check if someone else has already registered those same numbers, as they were reissued each year.

These are things I have found out while doing my own due diligence prior to paying for plates and//or trying to tag a vehicle at the DMV.

Might save someone a headache or even a ticket.
I think that it would be nice to know that a period plate you are considering purchasing is not already registered. I do think the chances of that being the situation is very slim and I'm not sure how easy or if you can find out other than just submiiting an application for the plate. They will not give you permission to use that plate if it is already registerd. Unless someone is paying a considerable amount for a period plate, I would suggest they not worry about anything and just buy it and go through the process.

You can also run any plate of year period correct. So, my '76 Duster can run a '76 plate from any state. My '80 D150 has 1980 North Dakota plates on it, and I carry the real plates with me.

I did not know that. I'll have to look for some '67 plates.

Back in the old days in Florida tag numbers were as follows the first 1 or 2 numbers designated the county it was registered in like 7 was Orange County then the next letters or no letter designated the weight of the vehicle, like W or WW ect, G/H was for light trucks. and then the sequential tag number like 123456. That system was replaced by the current number letter system of the modern era because of growth in population.

Agree.

An issue arises because that let's say

7w 3544

was issued in 1966/67, 1967/68, 1968/69 1969/70, etc (FL also ran plates for two years back then and had both years stamped on the plates).

So if bought a beautiful 1967/68 7w 3544 plate at a swap meet, but someone has already registered a 1969/70 plate with the same 7w 3544 ...

...you're screwed.

I have relatives that live in Misery. Taxed if they have a boat, car, camper, etc. I'd have to sell a few cars if I lived there... lol
Interesting , I just sent the $ in to start running my vintage 1968 Okla. tag this morning , have paid for it or ran it since 2022 .

eBay from someone in upstate New York when we first moved to Texas. Gal at the assessor’s office had no idea it was an option. Loved that tag!

FL "antique" plates are $38 a year with absolutely no restrictions.

This is a great deal on trucks as "regular" plates are billed by weight.
Dang. All I did was take mine into the tag office and five minutes later I was walkin out with registered to my car. No fee. No nuthin. All I have to do is pay the regular 20 buck registration fee every year. But 38 ain't horrible either.

I opted out of the antique tag here in PA for my personalized plate, CUDA 69. Took many attempts for them to issue it as somebody must of thought it was a sexual reference. lol

I don`t know why DMV always try to read in to letters and numbers as vulgar.
They wouldn`t let me have 1BMF-FISH

Mi. SOS has refused many of my personal plate requests. Always saying they were vulgar, political, or lewd.
Funny, that describes the SOS.
