I know I have seen a couple of early A's that have been converted to gas charged struts for the hood. Just can't seem to find them. Any help would be great

weigh the hood at the point of attachment where you want the struts. Like take the torsion bars out and then prop the hood up with a stick where you want to mount the strut and then rest it on a bathroom scale on the fender. Itll give you an idea on what poundage you have to look for in the strut. Too much and your hood will taco (although these hoods are a whole lot more rigid than a modern import). Whats the issue with the torsion bars?

They are ugly. Just trying to keep the engine compartment nice and clean. Not much of anything stock on my car anymore

See I knew someone had done this. Pictures would be great. Thanks

Sorry for the late response, but this is how i did it, very clean and not very noticeable.
The other end of the shock is mounted in the kick well behind the lower panel.

based on his mounting position..I would say he was thinking "inside the box" :)
