I know I have seen a couple of early A's that have been converted to gas charged struts for the hood. Just can't seem to find them. Any help would be great

weigh the hood at the point of attachment where you want the struts. Like take the torsion bars out and then prop the hood up with a stick where you want to mount the strut and then rest it on a bathroom scale on the fender. Itll give you an idea on what poundage you have to look for in the strut. Too much and your hood will taco (although these hoods are a whole lot more rigid than a modern import). Whats the issue with the torsion bars?

They are ugly. Just trying to keep the engine compartment nice and clean. Not much of anything stock on my car anymore

Sorry for the late response, but this is how i did it, very clean and not very noticeable.
The other end of the shock is mounted in the kick well behind the lower panel. THey are from a 02 Durango rear hatch.

Another member commented on how he used rear hatch lifts from an early 2000’s Montero on his 66 Dart. I did the same. All my pics are somewhere within my restoration thread. I will search through the thread and post them

That rear install is right on target. May even do the fronts like that one day.

I used 1967 -1970 A body hood hinge spring set up . I made new aluminum hood hinges (Brackets) Here are some fo the pictures to get the hinges concealed . I didn't like to have the piston exposed, so I went with the old school hinge that woorks.

I think I've seen where someone else had done that, maybe they used a Duster hinge/spring mechanism But they provided no details, just pics of the end result.
The way you did it is first class fabrication. Very Nice.
Why didn't you use the standard hinges, instead of the aluminum ones?

No, reason .I wanted to build it from scratch and do a little custom work. I'm a Tool maker and have access to all the machines. It was a fun job.
