This afternoon I got underway to part out the moredoor. I knew the interconnect cables "might be" getting corroded, as the hoist would not go down under it's own weight. However it functioned OK, and I did NOT expect THIS

I had had it up, starting to pull the suspension loose to drop the K and engine, and decided to remove the shocks. While I was under the hood, I started to pull some other stuff. I went to lift it up to pull the shocks out (and remove the upper arms, and ................and.................and..................and............................

Of COURSE I've got enough of the front apart that it's "no longer a roller." This might get really interestin'

I started to raise it up when it happened. I have a habit of getting the column between me and the car. I could not get to the switch right away, so it ran for about 1, 2 seconds before I could grab the switch. I MAY move that switch.

It didn't hurt the car, LOL

I'm done, it's after 6PM, and won't be long, sun be down and cooling down. It was nice today, high 50's here and sunny

I would lift the low side with the Farmall and lower the other side / loader a little at a time. will the upper crossmember of the lift support much weight?

I cant see in the pics, does the cables go over head or under ground? The piece that connects the two sides together. At the top.

No these go in a channel on the bottom. When I put this together I thought it was fairly protected from the weather. Of course I won't know til I get it apart. The way it goes together is stupid. The main bolts holding the columns also hold the cover over the channel. So it's difficult to "get into." I've thought about cutting it open and redoing the way it fastens, now I will have to.

Yes, the car would be no great loss. I paid 300 for it for parts. I'm thinking of cutting off the firewall forward to create an "engine bay jig" in case I ever get around to a turbo project.

So I got to it this morning. Turns out getting the car on the ground was easy. And, the easy PART. I put a jack under the low side in case the ratchet safety was not engaged, and jiggled the high side and got it down, then let the hoist clear down "level." Put some blocking under the car for extra safety. Pulled a few things off the engine, drained and removed the radiator (just because "it was there") put the T bar adjusters back in, the tires on, and lowered it to the ground. EASY!!! LOL

Pulled the cover off the hoist. Yup!! One cable broken. The problem is the "other end" which has an eye, held by a cross bolt that is HARD to get to

Bottom two photos show the eyebolt end which I have not gotten unfastened. (It's LUNCH time!!) Bottom photo shows about how far "up under" the carriage the bolt is. You have to lay under there, reach up "by feel" and remove the bolt. This is going to be a "FUN" afternoon!!

When this thing goes back together, I plan to use "heavy lube" cable and cut/ drill lots of drain holes in that pan.

Got the cables apart late this afternoon. Headed for the riggin' outfit in Spokane tomorrow and get two new ones made

This actually went MUCH easier than I had thought. Of course it's not fixed, yet. But I think we can pull this off. Supposed to be nice most of this week

Good thing I wasn't further along tearing down the moredoor. That would have been INTERESTING getting a body off of there!!!

Well rolled in from Spokamentro (Broadway Splicing) where I spent the better part of 200 bucks. Only about 90 of it was for the new cables. The factory ones ("if" you could get them) are about 125 or more EACH.

Already got the eyelet end put back up in and bolted in place. Next, clean out the trough, cut some drain holes in the middle, and HEAVY grease the cables. "With luck" I might have this done tonight

Holy Molly !! Glad a different car or truck was not on it ! A blessing to see no one was hurt and a parts car was on it at this time.. Oh my goodness ! Glad you are ok and have it under control :cheers:

This has been along, tiring, but satisfying and "progressive" day. In fact "IT'S DONE!!!"

Top photo. Huge big giant container of grease, and cutting drain holes in the bottom pan. The pan is not structural. Under it are two 2X6 heavy wall tubes about 1" apart that form the "H" of the legs

Next two, stringing the wire, and next two, wire is STRUNG!!! Took a few minutes to cycle it and adjust the cables

Last photo, GREASE, grease grease GREASE and MORE GREASE!!!

About 5:45 here, just finished a light supper. I'll rest a bit and may get the "moredoor" back on the hoist TONIGHT!!!

You know, if you want to recoup some of your losses I'll buy the front disc brake set up off of you...if it is small bolt pattern
