How many CURRENT owners of real '74 360 Duster 4 speed cars on here?

-
Significance of the '74 Duster 360 4 speed cars as a whole or a specific car in this thread?
As a whole it appears to me that there is a list being made etc. I do like the later cars save for that high impact bumper :)

The '74 Duster 360 replaced the Duster 340 in the line up. Nothing huge there, just a touch bigger motor and a little heavier car. But it was the first 360 to get the 340 parts (heads, cam, intake, exhaust), so it was special in that regard.

But the production numbers for the '74 Duster 360 with a 4 speed were very low, only 586 per the White Books. No idea why, the '73 Duster 340 4 speed numbers were 2037 and the '74 Dart Sport 360 manual (no 3/4 speed breakdown) numbers were 1186. Could be the '74 Dart Sport 360 4 speed is just as rare.

But the thread started years ago because I have a 4 speed car and kept seeing people post about owning one on here. With the low production numbers, I was curious how many were still around so I asked the question. That grew into a list that I have continued to maintain. That's all.

BTW, the '74 Duster 360 3 speed is even more rare with only 318 produced.

Here’s a photo of my VS29L4G with a 4spd. I’m the original owner, factory special order, ordered 12/15/73 and received 3/15/74. Yes, it took 3 months to get it. I’ve included a photo of the fender tag along with shots of it decoded. From original, I installed Hooker headers and an Edelbrock vapor injection kit to keep it from pinging under heavy throttle. 8 mpg when I was having fun, 15 to 16 on the highway. It’s 51 years old now, original paint and high back bench seat with center pull down armrest. Enjoy!

Very cool. List updated.

Got her back home yesterday. Car has been repainted the original color and a 408 Stoker added with 3.73 rear gears.

I’m going to freshen up the #s matching 360 and swap out the Stroker. Also put the original 3.21 SG gears back in.

Glad to hear he kept the numbers matching block and you got it with the purchase. Is the trans the numbers matching one, too?

Mine still has the numbers matching block, but the trans was long gone when I drug it out of the JY. I have toyed with pulling the motor and storing it just so I didn’t have to worry about something happening, but it’s nice have it all in one place and mobile.

Yes the trans is numbers matching also. He pulled the complete motor and set it aside using nothing for the stroker build. It also has the original rearend housing. Car also retains its original broadcast sheet and window sticker.

I am looking for the original carb for. He’s mixed that in with some other spares. Anyone know the correct model number for the 4 speed Thermoquad on the 360?

Updated list. New member who bought one of the cars already on the list.

Dates are the last time they posted in this thread or elsewhere with something indicating they still owned the car.

I’ve also had a 74 dart sport 360 4 speed parts car since the early 80s. Only thing left is the block that I saved for a member on the list but nothing ever came of it. Kim

I was able to get my hands on the original Thermoquad carb. Thanks for the info. Going to rebuild and put that on the Stroker for now and probably sell the Holley 850 QFT.

Also get the original 3.21 gears back in and most likely will also sell the 3.73 ring and pinion that's in it now. My goal is to get the original stuff back in the Duster.

Does your original motor have the exhaust manifolds still on it?

If so, can you snap some pictures of them? Maybe grab the casting numbers if possible?

Thanks!

Just got my 15" Cragars all the way around. I still have the original spare rim and tire. Also the 14's with hubcaps.

They are the same as 71-73 340
Thanks for the heads up on that. I have a set of 73 340 manifolds I bought to put on my 340 Cuda. Those probably the same?

Seth is DemonDuster still active on here? I bought this car from him back in 2011. He used to race it at the Pure Stock Drags.
