The fastest 383 was 14.4 with a 4spd 4.10 superbee in fact
440 cars were 13.9 13.8 you really think that test is right only 1/10 slower then several 440 b body test or the 69 m code 440@ 13.71
there is hundreds of road test showing 14.8 to 15 .2 you come up with 1 magic time vs the other 50 test
Oh and the exhaust was bigger but nothing else was changed lmfao

In order for it to be a sticky it would need to be useful information that people regularly need or inquire about.
 
The cars in the test were carefully scrutinised for authenticity. That is: is this the car someone would get if they walked into a showroom. Post #16.
The Pontiac entry was disqualified for cheating........& results not published. Among other inconsistencies, it had the vac hose to the dist blocked, & some engine parts did not have the correct part/casting #s for that year. They went to some level of checking to make sure it was a level playing field. Obviously they deemed the differences on the Dodge were not enough to give it an edge.

There was an important lesson in this test: small carb [ 625 AVS ] v big carb [ 700+ cfm Holley ].
both the 383 & the 428 ran identical 14.04 quarter times. The Dodge was 1 mph slower, 99 to 100

I was going to say: would rather have the small 625 AVS & be quicker to, say, 80 mph......rather than a bigger carb carb that comes on 80...

But the superbee had larger exhaust thats cheating big time

I watched a lot of 383 Superbees and Roadrunners go down the strip in the 60's. The 323 gear cars were all
15 sec. but with slicks, headers and 4.10's there was one that ran around 13.9. With the 440 heads the 383 compression was in the 8's and they were lazy without gears. You guys gotta' stop believing those magazines.

I don't see where this conversation is going, just dyno the damn thing and then go to the strip to get some 1/4 miles times.
 
I have not been unable to find a good free PC dyno, so I will preset this question for opinions. Around 400, a little more, I think. One thing I do know, it gets up and boogies in a big way. Thank you.

Probably around 425 hp without knowing compression and head flow numbers. IF you built the car correctly then you put a higher stall converter in if it’s an auto, AND a performance oriented gear ratio which would allow you to use a 750/800/or even a 950hp carb for even more horsepower and the win ! You have a roller cam and aftermarket aluminum heads, try to borrow a bigger carb and I think you will feel the power.
 
I know why people use them, but my opinion is who cares about the number, it is pretty meaningless. I had mine run on a chassis dyno. The number was 348 at the tire, but it runs 118 at 3290 lbs. The true benefit of a dyno is testing/showing how and where it makes power and logging data. The gross number can be manipulated pretty easily. The most important is unless you have run the car. Any number is given the same credibility of “I once caught a fish that was THIS BIG!!!!!!”

About ten years ago I ran a new small block small less than 300 cid.on the dyno I made approximately 15 pulls on it most optimizing three different carbs, I tested a 600dp, 750dp and a 850 dp race carb off one of my 440s. I also tested the K&N stub stack on the 600 because it still retain the choke.

850 = 459 hp
750 = 455 hp
600 = 447 hp
600 with stub stack 453 hp. + 6 hp

I guess on the street 12 hp isn’t worth whatever drivability problems you might have with a large carb at least not one you would need to go out and buy. As to the K&N stub stack I spent a fair amount of time fitting it too the carb but I’ve been pleased with it’s performance.

If the cam lobes are smooth enough to keep the lifters from getting unhappy before the combos natural peak occurs………should be over 400/400.
Of course, depending on exactly whose dyno service is used……….. the number could easily vary +/- 25hp.
