How to ID a real MP 360 crate magnum, id the HP rating, and what's it worth?

^^Yes, thought of this, and of course, no warrantee^^

@67Dart273

The quickest way to determine if it's a 300 HP Magnum or a 320 HP Magnum is to look at the cylinder heads.

Under the leftmost exhaust port, if it's casted "R/T" on the head it's a 320 HP Magnum

300 HP Commando- LA motor: dual plane OE copy intake, high swirl production heads (1.88 intake, .474-280-60 flat tappet purple cam) .1993-1994 MP catalog and earlier P/N P4529783

300 HP Magnum
- magnum based motor: dual plane OE copy intake, with production heads w/1.92 intake, .385/.401-250/264 roller cam. 1995 to at least 2002 MP catalog P/N P5249498

320 HP Magnum
- magnum based motor: dual plane OE copy intake, with R/T heads w/2.02 intake, .385/.401-250/264 roller cam. Sometime after 2002 to at least 2007 MP catalog P/N P5153476

Interesting, Never heard of this version

Here's pictures I took from the MP as reference. I edited my previous comment in case someone looks back at this in the future

Wonder what a 320HP R/T headed motor would be like bolting on a Speedmaster Air Gap copy with magnum head bolt provision AND bolting on 1.6 rocker arms?

Would it get 1 hp / 1 cid ?

I'm thinking it was probably 330 HP delivered but conservatively advertised at 320HP??

Ns1rm21 texted me, “Engine is still in big blue bag, they used a big square tape/sticker over the distributor hole….everything looks original to me. “

Wow, maybe my wife is right and I am color blind. I swear the intake looked at least to have been fogged orange. Looking at it now and it is obviously bare aluminum.

@67Dart273 so you can look for apart number or just get a picture across the exhaust ports.

That magnum R/T head could be as good as an Edelbrock aluminum head, just iron. It’s better than any production iron head X,J, or whatever.

The 300hp version was a factory Magnum longblock including the cam. I bought a test mule from MP years ago that was a 300hp short block with W2s, a modified factory iron 4bbl, and a 2bbl adaptor…lol. They said the 300hp versions were literally pulled from the production inventory. The 380 was a bit different and “touched” to a greater level.
Getting a 360 fully checked and machined and buying the parts will cost you every bit of $4k with you having a core and you assembling it. I’ve done 1 and almost done a 2nd in the last 8 months and that’s what they cost. So if you worry about quality figure your price based on gaskets to test it down and verify.

This is for sure a "fence ride" LOL. I'll have to wait for the seller to get their *** in gear now
