Hi all I was wondering if anyone here has used any of these? I was told they are for .904 lifter. We were looking at this cam for street 360 build.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HRS-710461-10/ looks similar to either the voodoo or comp xe268 cams but with more lift.
Also on average at what lift do you need to have the guide milled down for retainer clearence?

I've looked at howard's cam's several times, but have no info as to whether they are a good cam or not.

I haven't confirmed it but they MAY be UD Harolds designs as he was involved with Arrington racings designs and the grinder(Mike) left for Howards cams a few years ago. I'd call Tim and use the lobes that UD Harold designed in 1984 if I needed a hyd cam.

Mike is the man when it comes to cams... I knew him at Arrington and he is one smart dude.

I don't know who owns what presently, but "Howards cams" has been around for one HELL of a long time, back in the flathead days (A note in their catalog says "since the 50's)

Does he actually design them or grind someones lobes? At Arrington he was grinding Harolds lobes.

He designed the hemi cams from them... I'm sure he does Dave Webbers stuff now too... I know they had a cam grinder there at arrington that they used billet cores and did everything in house.

When he worked for Arrington they hired Harold Brookshire to design the cams he ground. They ground cams for Alan Johnson's pro stocker a few years ago,Harold designed the lobes,Mike ran the Landis cam grinder. There is a difference between designing and grinding someone else's lobes and calling them your own special stuff.Cores come from several sources and billet cores are not uncommon.

How many cams designed by Mr. Johannson are currently being used? Do you know what year he died? Who cares when a company was founded?

Geezus Khrist I didn't post that to start a war. The point is, the company has been around and successful for a VERY long time. They must be doing something right? "Who cares?" I do. USUALLY old solid companies mean good results, most of the time. I'm sure as hell not gonna gamble on some cam grinder--or anybody else--who has been in business for 6 months.

I guess a name being around along time doesn't meen much to some ha lol.

I've never heard anything bad about "howards" products, I'm sure its just the name anymore, its been handed around a time or 2, but so has crane & a few others.
