My MSD 8.5 wires and boots need a good cleaning. No need to buy a new set as they function fine. I'm looking for suggestions on how best to clean the silicone jackets and plug boot ends. I am afraid to use brake and carb cleaners, although I don't know if either will hurt the wires. I also have electronic cleaner and acrysol. Simple green? Soapy water? What has worked on your wires?

Electronic/ electrical cleaner used to be essentially the same chemical as brake clean and parts cleaner. And round up some alky. You can buy this

Klean Strip denatured alcohol in quarts and gallons at HD and Lowes

NOTE: THIS IS NOT the same as Coleman fuel and cannot be used for such. It might be used in some alcohol stoves

We used that product extensively where I worked building electrics/ electronics for the power wheelchairs we sold

I WOULD NOT use carb cleaner, most thinners, lacquer/ paint thinner, acetone, or MEK

I'd try soapy water, then simple green, then engine degreaser etc. Slowly stepping up as you go.
