IHRA buys the WDRA What does that mean for the racers?

I saw that the WDRA was just taken over by the IHRA. My local track just switched from IHRA to WDRA a couple years ago. I am curious what that means for our track. I hear positive things about the new IHRA.
I heard rumors that IHRA may become 1/8 mile only. I reached out to IHRA and will share what they say.
No word from our local track yet.

John, I agree that it is good for the sport. I prefer 1/4 mile also. I'm afraid the value of land will have us all running 1/8. Who knows? Positive attitudes required!
 
Well I have ran 1/4 mile as long as I have raced, which really isn't that long (maybe 10 years), but one evening there was a strong side wind so they cut it back to 1/8 mile in order to keep the T&T going. It's different, but not bad different. You are spot on as to how it would change driving the stripe.
Our track length will not change, so land prices are not a factor as we are out in the boonies, but I suppose insurance costs may be the driver toward 1/8 mile.

IHRA 1/8 miles on all the classes on its nitro show national events I think is to insure car count with the generally budget nitro guys that are showing up at these events. I can see the virtue there.
What I don’t understand is cutting back stock and super stock to 1/8 mile.
That in some measure gets rid of the innovation that makes those classes what they are. The 1/8 makes for more parity in those classes, kind of a socialist outcome.
 
The closest quarter mile to me closed this year as the land it and the dirt track were on sold to developers. Now Rockingham is probably the closest and doubt I will drive that far and I don't own a trailer.

I always argued my c bodies needed the whole quarter to stretch their legs lol.

Although the chances of it happening are pretty slim .. it would be great if IHRA would take over Atco here in Jersey or an even slimmer chance E Town .. there presence in the northeast area would really increase their exposure here

Well Cley, we will have to wait and see. We were NHRA then went to IHRA for a few years then went to WDRA. Now to go back to IHRA we may have a to grovel a bit to get back into their good graces. Hopefully it will go easy. Kim
 
I think this is a totally different IHRA than when we were with them. They were bought out just before or just after we left them. This new owner is making big moves and spending big money. There is so much unknown. Apparently there will be a big Q&A at the PRI show in December. We should get our answers then.

do any of you guys know what really happened to the original ihra ? us old dragracers from this area all know ...
 
Since I hate nhra, I wish there was a IHRA track nearby.
And I have raced both 1/4 and 1/8 for years.
I guess I'm showing my age too..... but I MUCH prefer 1/8!
 
Well well!
This post just reminded me of the Perris ca. Street legal strip. So, I went to their website. Turns out, they are (were?) WDRA.
330 feet, no prep.
I haven't found their rules for "stret legal" yet, but if I can live with them, I'm gonna give em a try. 15" wide tires should help on no-prep!

Trying to keep this short as possible =
A local guy won the season series (world championship) the last year they were in business , don't remember what class , maybe super stock , or stock , anyway he went to the awards banquet , ''seems like it was in Arizona''.
anyway the big honcho owner would not pay off , local guy ended up sueing the hell out of them , seems like a bunch of other people jumped on the band wagon in the lawsuit and put them out of business . Fruad and other stuff , the owner was pocketing a lot of the winnings of the small time guys don't know how much $ he wound up with , but was very substantial ---- but I think it was substantual!!
Wont mention the names --------
