I'm worried right now...

I'm a little worried right now.

The dog and I went to talk to the neighbor, I heard him yelp, then looked and saw a big black bee flying away from him.

I couldn't see anything right away, so I wasn't sure if he got stung, so I kept an eye on him. After 15 minutes, his head started swelling near his left eye, so I called the vet and they told me to bring him in....

They gave him some benedryl and a cortizone shot, and have him for a few hours to watch his progress.

The vet said that he is allergic to bee stings as that's why he started swelling. She said that sometimes the whole head can swell up. :violent2:


The vet that he's at is the good one that I usually use, so he should be in good care.

I'm just worried about him and hope he's going to be ok.... ale:

Do they have epi pens for dogs? If not I call the idea but will split the money with ya Krazy for giving me the idea!

Hope he gets better really soon. My pup took a bumblebee to the nose the other day, needless to say he no longer sticks his nose into flowers.

Hope your dog is better. We had a scare yesterday with one of the kittens. I went outside and saw him laying on the porch acting like he couldn't move his back legs. My wife took him inside and he perked up and seemed ok. Yesterday morning he was almost dead! Unresponsive and no spark in his eyes at all. She held him all day giving him some ice chips to lick etc to keep him hydrated and wiped him down with a damp cloth in case it was something he contacted. Best we can tell he either came in contact with one of the dogs treated areas for the flea and tick meds or was bitten by something. We have all kinds of those ugly flying bugs, scorpions, centipedes, black widows, brown recluse. Did not see any signs of a bite and he is much better today...

I'm glad that I was there when he got stung and was able to know what happened to him when I took him to the vet so they could treat him properly.

Imagine if I had just let him out by himself and he came in and started swelling up later and I would not know why....


I'm glad that I saw what happened and got him to the vet within 30 minutes after he was stung once I realized that's what happened and he was having a reaction to it...

I got the call from the vet clearing him to come home.

The swelling near his eye is now gone and he's his usual self...

His appetite is still here, he just scarfed down some water melon with me....


He's going to be ok!!!

That looks like it hurt.

I think the cortizone shot also helped my dog. They gave him a shot of cortizone and a shot of benedryl. I think the shots helped get the healing started quicker.

Now I have to give him two Benedryl tablets every 8-10 hours for the next two days...

He's doing good and is his old self... :glasses7:

Glad he's doing good. Keep them Benedryl tablets on hand. Check with vet about initial dose so you can give it to him immediately if (lets hope not) it happens again. I keep it in my cars, wife's always forgetting her epi pen.

Yes, I think it was Dr. Loxtercamp's day off, but we went to our vet's office and got another vet there. Loxtercamp is the medical director there and he's very good. He is even certified to work on reptiles and birds.

Dr. Loxtercamp usually works Thurs (thurs is half price vaccine day), then every Friday he does scheduled surgeries. While I was in the waiting room yesterday, someone called to make an appointment for today with him and the receptionist said that he's booked up solid all day today from 9 AM to 7 PM...

Their other vets are pretty good, I like Dr. Loxtercamp the best. He takes the time to explain what's going and I like to ask questions to help me understand what our options are. He's usually open to suggestions if they are worth trying.

I don't even want to know what you had to do to get Fabo to take her meds when she was up there with you! Especially since she still has all of her claws!

Glad your buddy is doing well. I wish we had a vet down here like Dr. Loxtercamp's office. The vet we take Fabo and Fraidy to is good (they only deal with cats there, hence the name Cat's Only) but there's just something impersonal about the place. I can't put my finger on it, really. It's almost like it's an assembly line more than anything else.

We give pills hidden in a glob of peanut butter. Our dogs love it and is so sticky around the pill that they don't seem to notice that we are tricking them into taking their medicine.
