Installing a 3 point harness

Hey guys,

I’ve got a ’68 Barracuda notchback and I’d like to install a set of brand new Schroth Rallye 3 ASM harnesses I’ve had laying around.
From factory, mine only has the lap belts (which don’t even work anymore…), and I don’t even think I could install standard 3-point seat belts there doesn’t seem to be any proper mounting point for the shoulder belt, just the coat hook / assist strap mount up on the roof.

That’s why I’m leaning toward installing the harness instead. If I’m going to make new mounting points, I’d rather do it properly and make it actually safe. Plus, I’m planning to upgrade my 318 a bit in the future, and the car already has more of a restomod / neo-retro vibe anyway, so I figured I might as well put something safer in there.

I’ve looked into those bolt-in harness bars, but I’ve read really mixed opinions some say they’re fine, others say they’re not worth it or even unsafe.
Honestly, I have no clue what’s the best and not-too-complicated way to mount these belts in an A-body, especially a notchback.

This isn’t for racing or track use it’s mainly for street driving. I just want a solid, safe belt setup instead of running around with nothing.
If anyone’s done something similar or has advice on where and how to mount them (mounting points, reinforcement ideas, bracket types, etc.), I’d really appreciate the help!

I’m also attaching a few pictures of my current interior it’s kind of custom, mostly the upholstery, so you can see what I’m working with.

Generally shoulder harness (race) are supposed to be installed behind you on the roll bar. You don't want them anchored to the floor because they can compress your spine. One solution in a non-rollbar car might be from the "certainly must be rare" option for 67 ragtop shoulder options. One begins to think it was someone's imagination. Generally shoulder harness (race) are supposed to be installed behind you on the roll bar. You don't want them anchored to the floor because they can compress your spine. One solution in a non-rollbar car might be from the "certainly must be rare" option for 67 ragtop shoulder options. One begins to think it was someone's imagination. I may be wrong, but I think (some ) 68's had the anchor in the roof under the headliner. Maybe someone can confirm?

My shoulder belts plug into the rear seat belt buckle. The shoulder harness itself is a "Y" shape to stop it from falling down off the shoulders. The ones I have pass through holes in the seat, but they could be strung over the top of a traditional seat as well.

I got them from Corbeu Racing Seats.

Only if you don't want to use the rear seat belt.

My car has a roll bar, but I didn't want to use a cross bar from driver's side to passenger side because it really blocks access to the rear seat.

Another option is XV Racing Products. They offer a 3 pt retractable belt. I installed a set in the Dart and the Coronet. While the Dart originally only came with lap belts, there was a factory mounting pad in the B pillar for the shoulder. Could be a trickier install in a hardtop.

i mean don't get me wrong 3 pt retractable belt are nice, but i've got my schroth laying around and i would rather use them than buying some 3 pt retractable belt knowing that i'm from france it's going to cost me an arm and a leg to get these imported

No race shoulder belts are connected to an added roll bar. Once again, generally, you would NOT want them anchored on the floor.
