Alright so I have a sears evaporating/blower unit that I got when I had bought my 75 dart sport. I also have a condesor that is currently mounted to my rad that I plan on using for the whole a/c setup. What do i need in order to cinver my car to a/c? are there any electric compressors I could use instead or maybe one that is not mounted right on top of th motor? Any help is appreciated thanks Dom

Any 12V electric compressor would draw one HECK of a lot of current under load, I'd guess 50A or even more. You'd be much better off even if you have to BUILD custom AC pump mount for your engine.

But since Mopar used V belt compressors up into the 80's on various cars and pickups, I would not think it that tough to get a setup from a junkyard off a 318/ 360

It's not the compressor you have to convert. You probably need a new expansion device, flush the thing out real good, and be sure to get ALL the old oil out of the system. 134 is certainly the way I'd go, this does not sound like a "concourse" resto.

I'd get ahold of some of the aftermarket air outfits, don't remember the names, "Classic Air" is one, here's another: http://www.oldairproducts.com/catalog/ and AMA has been around for years:

Yeah this is going to be my daily driver once I get my license and as much as I don't want to lose hp I'd rather have a/c

It sorta is the compressor. If you try to get an old used compressor and run 134A, it will not have the right oil or o-rings in it. You should get a new reman compressor as it will already have either PAG oil or mineral oil and the proper o-rings for 134A. Mixing and matching oils old and new will cause the o-rings to be eaten away. That would suck.

Just use ester oil. It is compatible with both refrigerants. Replace all the o-rings.
