I am finally getting around to replacing the Dart GT emblem that was broken on my quarter panel. The typical way to replace it would be to pull the rear seat and rear panel out and use push nuts from the back side of the emblem. However, that is obviously a pain in the butt. I have seen a different kind of "nut" that is pushed through the hole with the emblem pin and then flares out inside the fender to hold it in place. However, I am not sure what those are called or where I might find them. Anyone know where I might find that specific kind of fastener? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

1970 road runner and GTX used barrel clips on quarter panel emblems. 1967 Coronet R/T used nuts from the inside.

I ordered a set of the barrel clips from Year One. The replacement emblems came with the nuts installed from the inside. I am just looking for an avenue to prevent me from having to remove the entire rear interior (seat and panel) to simply install an emblem. I should know pretty quick if the barrel clips will work or not (hopefully).

Do you think these will work?

Did you get repop Dart GT emblems? I went to install the ones on my 1970 GT (same emblems) and the posts are NOT exactly correct, and the emblem is fragile enough that if you force it it will break or bend so it's not straight across. I had to open up one hole a bit and use nuts - the barrel clips just make the hole smaller and the misaligned posts even harder to deal with.

It would be a rare occurrence that the "barrel" nuts will be as affective as the actual screw type nuts.

Yeah, I feel like this is ultimately the case. I have the push nuts that are the way they are supposed to be mounted. Guess I was just trying to find an easy way out.

For one of the other questions, Year One had the emblems made for me based on the original broken emblem that I sent them.

What about adhesive? I glued the 5.0 emblem back on my Fox body using emblem adhesive. It worked and held up well. Would probably seal the holes in the body also. Just an alternative idea.

The chance of that being true, given that somebody has been repoping them for years is infinitesimally small. Did they actually tell you that is what they did??? I pulled an old YO catalog from 2009 and there they are - part # VC130...

Fair enough and your point is taken. I am only sharing with you the story as I experienced it. Year One had stopped providing the DartGT emblem specifically during that time frame. I know they previously sold them because I had bought my original replacements from them six years ago. Kevin King (the owner of Year One) spoke to me personally about this issue. Presumably the previous vendor had stopped making those specific emblems. I don't really care if he was just blowing smoke or not. All I cared about was getting the emblems I needed which were back ordered for more than six months because the vendor wasn't producing them in 2019/2020.

Did you get what you needed? Layson's has them in stock.

I do have the emblems. I have searched for various barrel nuts to no avail. The emblems did come with the correct push nuts but they have to be installed from the inside. Was hoping to avoid pulling out the rear seat and panel just to install an emblem, but that appears to be my fate.

A have a 1964 Dart GT convertible. On one of the rear quarter panels GT emblems, the T is broken off.

Not that big a deal, just an annoying destraction to me.

It looks like I have to remove the back seat and arm rests to unscrew and replace with a new $100 emblem.

I would do this, but a think the seat has not been removed in the last 61 years! And it's not budging.
Is there a MoPar secret to remove it?

I'm 80 and have a lot worse things to worry about. But any help or suggestions solving this problem would be helpful.

Thanx guys,

Steve

Do you have a picture that shows where the emblem is located? something relatively far away from the actual emblem?

you should really talk to an early ragtop person, but for most A-bodies: remove the back armrests and window cranks then the rear seat procedure is to push the back seat bottom straight down (kneel on it) and then toward the back of the car to release the catch welded to the floor. sorry not to have a close up, but the bar on each side of the seat frame goes from side to side so to install, it gets pushed down in the slot past the hook then pulled forward to catch in the hook. Removal means pressing down on the seat to get the seat frame bar below the hook then pushing back to release it, then pull slightly forward and up to remove. If it is as hard as you say, try to release one side and then the other - that is release one side from the hook, and then the other side before you try to pull the seat up or you will just jam the second side in tighter and may not get it to release.

Once the bottom is out, you should see the attachment for the seat back to release and remove.

Looks like getting to the emblem will be easy with the window rolled up... OOOHHH! Are you sure that the emblem is attached with nuts and not just pushed into body holes through plastic or metal barrel nuts??? There has to be someone on FABO that knows the answer to this for sure. If so, you can avoid all this pain. Since the current emblem is toast just gently pry all around the outside edges and see if it lets go.

Over the past 50 years I have done this seat removal twice in a parking lot, so I could crawl through to the trunk and retrieve the keys that I dropped just before closing the trunk lid...

Try rolling the window down and then shine a light down into the recess to see if the emblem has nuts on the inside. If it does, then you will know you need to remove the back seat. Push down and rearward and it should pop loose.

Great replys and incouragement. Twenty yeasrs ago it would have been a walk in the park!
ll try to see how it is attached, and maybe get lucky.
If not I'll cram my old a$$ in there and give it a good try or four.
Thanx again guys. I'll do it tomorrow and post results.
Steve

Thanx for all the advice and pics!
I gently pryed on the enblem and it came off. Easy peasy.
I'm going on line and find a replacement.
You guys really saved me much work and aggravation.
What a great site!
