I’m going to be installing a new gear box on my ‘72 Duster with oem power steering.
I am wondering if the gearbox gears need to be in certain position, like installing a ps rack on a late model car.
I just don’t want to get it all installed and find out I got it wrong. Thanks

the sector shaft *generally* has one master key way and the pitman *generally* has four. positioning wise two will be wildly apparent that they are wrong so you have 50/50 on the other two. i like to center the box and mark the shaft and box with a little paint dot to know where center is that way once everything is installed i can line it right up-- because usually you'll be jacking around the wheels/suspension and box on the install.

all this is to say: it's pretty hard to mess up, it'll be somewhat evident as to how it goes back on.

As mentioned, get the input shaft (worm gear) centered before installing the box. Then get the wheels pointed straight ahead. The pitman arm should only go on one way at that point and still connect to the drag link.
