Is it my imagination, or are the rear wheels narrower than the front in a /6 Duster?

I've tried searching for this and couldn't find anything sorry if this is well known.

I have a 73 Duster with the 198 /6. AFAIK its all original.

When looking at the wheels, it seems like the rear wheels are inset into the body more than the fronts. I can't quite tell if its just that the rear wheel wells arch more but it sure looks like the tires are inset quite a bit.

Is this normal? Unique to /6 cars with 7.25 rears?

Normal. There was actually a TSB on it back in the day because people thought the cars were side-tracking. The large wheel houses on the Duster make it look even worse than it is though.

And, it is actually worse on the 73+ 7.25" rear cars. I was under the impression that the 7.25's were the about same width as the A-body 8 3/4's, but they're actually narrower. And not by a little, the 7.25" rear axle that was in my Duster was a little over 1" narrower than the spec for an A body 8 3/4.

Yup. There are probably many cars/ trucks this way. When my buddy, now deceased, bought his then new 70 Chev 3/4 T 4x4, that thing always looked like it "dog legged" down the road

I have noticed it on Dusters and Demons myself. That's why I think they are fugly.

You do realize that you just insulted a huge percentage of the forum members here, right? :violent1:

:D

Lol...the different axle width thing is definitely "fugly" but it's fixable and the rest of the body style is classic, IMO.

Here is the TSB.

Not only the A body but Dodge full size vans. I never understood the theory with the vans. The A's yes because of using the Larger spindles for the disc brakes 4.5 bolt pattern.
