dang dang dang ...thats not what i wanted to hear.

i want to 4 speed swap this and the 727 is the same length as the four speed so this is going to make life hard bcoz now i need a different driveshaft.

I'm quite sure that it's the other way around Rani. 904/833 will use the same length driveshaft..

I know that in a e body what she is saying is correct as I have done it in reverse. Took out a 4 speed and installed a 727. Wow was I Dumb back then!!!!

Actually, both are correct. A body 4 speeds (and Volare / Aspen overdrive 4 speeds) are shorter, the same length as a 904. B and C and I think E body 4 speeds and truck / van overdrive 4 speeds are longer, and are the same length as a 727. You can use the longer 4 speed in an A body by fabricating a plate to re locate the shifter to where it would be with a short (A body) 4 speed.

SOOOO sorry guys i didnt specify what i am doing ...talk about lack of info .....the 727 is same length as the 4 speed in this application bcoz im working on a B-body

i know 904 and 833 are same length on A-bodys ...but other way around for B-bodies.

i am actually surprised a big heavy car like this has a 904 .......you figure a loaded weight capacity with passengers and thats going to be quite a load ....it has an 8 3/4 but its only a 741 case.....odd

The must have known that you would end up with it seeing as you are just a little thing! I agree that it is a strange combo but I have seen some weird things come out of the factory by times. Is this car going to be your travelling repair shop?

Rani I don't think 727s were put behind 318LAs, 'cept maybe later pickups

I am sure this is on the site in quite a few places but for quick reference I have it saved in my computer so I can post it when others ask.

The filter kits we used to sell had both gaskets...the filter is the same. Some customers never knew which they had.

I parted out a 68 Roadrunner 4 speed car a couple years ago...383, 4 speed, and 741 open rear!!! The car also had XHD underpinnings and 11" brakes all around!! Go figure!! But you know Ma, anything was possible!! geof

Why is that so odd? My 69 was almost exactly the same setup. I had the impression that RRs came with 11" "stock" and most were open differentials

Hey Rani, are you going to make a 4 speed B body wagon? Very cool! I wouldn't rule out an overdrive 4 speed unit. The low 3.09 first will get it up and going good, and the overdrive 4th will help out economy on the highway. Plus you can find them for cheap. Neat project. Right up there in the coolness factor with 4 speed C bodies.

Here is a pic of one of my previous cars - 68 Sport Fury ragtop 383 4 speed. Sadly I no longer have pics of my other one - a 67 Sport Fury fastop 383 4 speed,
