I'm wondering if two tone paint is uncommon or maybe even somewhat rare. Are actual prodution numbers available? The car is a 1968 GTS 340 with a paint code of WJ2. It is gold with a white painted top and white transverse/bumble bee stripe.
Thanks.

Uncommon yes. Rare? That's an opinion. Those production numbers weren't compiled and kept by Ma Mopar.

Yes 2 tone is umcommon on any car.
Your paint code is WU2 on your tag. White top blue body

Thanks for your replies. "413", notice that it is a J for gold, not a U (my picture might not be great). I've had so many people tell me that 2 tone doesn't exist, and that it is supposed to have a white vinyl top, argh.

For what it's worth, I have the ownership history. The car was originally sold in Richmond VA at Lawrence Dodge, which is no longer in business. The car spent it's entire life in Virginia except for a short stint in neighboring Maryland. Here's a picture of Lawrence Dodge posted on FB by David Wood Jr. I thought it was kind of neat.

I know someone who has an original 1970 Barracuda, blue with white painted top, documented. They exist, and I would call them "rare", since hardly anyone has ever seen one. Not sure why they offered this option, but some have speculated that it was because certain buyers back in the day didn't like actual vinyl tops because they thought they would rust out, but liked the look.

Not sure but I may have seen this car back in the day. I lived in Staunton at the time and my buddies and I would travel all around to Richmond . Charlottesville, Waynesboro and other places every weekend. I had a 69 B5 blue with white stripe 340 4 speed Swinger and would always notice other Darts. I've seen a lot of beautiful Mopars in my day and that kind of stood out along with a 69 GTS in PA that B5 blue with a painted white top around 1980 but just seen it passing bye. The one in Richmond I remember because there was also a Hemi Charger there. Now if this is the one in question I can't say for sure but I do remember seeing one.

A Vinyl top is coded in a different place on the tag. that is the paint code that tells the folks what to paint.

Yes it's WJ2

This 68 GTS belongs to a friend who's owned it for almost 50 years. Dark green painted roof on a light green body. Not common for sure. Seen a handful at best . This is the only GTS I know of. Seen one Duster.

Interesting. It was in Richmond with the original owner until 1974, and then it was in Shipman VA until 1987. I see that Shipman is not far from Staunton, Charlottesville area.

I am parting out a 69 Western Sport Special that is yellow with a white painted top...

My 69 340 4sp Swinger with painted top. Originally black top but I chose to go white for appearance and heat .

The colored painted tops are more rare.

Black and white are more common. And seems to be more common in the least expensive A-body line.
