It Hath Begun...56K WARNING 800x600 pics

-
A little more progress last night. Rick banged out a few dents in the PS fender and we stripped and primered the nose and fender.

Today's progress...the pass side is in primer/surfacer. Had to re-blast the roof welds and shoot them in epoxy again, too.

We didn't do the patch on the roof -- a previous owner had a body shop do it. We've had to dig/blast out the filler though and we'll make sure it gets filled correctly to avoid cracking in the future.

I thought Corey said the previous owner had a full mopar factory type top on it. He said it had been to Spring Fling many times. But I don't remember it or have a picture of it. Was it ever light green and have a slant 6 and a shaker on it??

It currently has a /6 in it. I don't know about the shaker. Yes, it used to be lime green. It also had e-body door handles in it at one time. The filler you see in the below pics is to smooth seams from welding in lower quarter patch panels and the door patches so a-body handles could be put back in it. Lastly, whoever had it welded up the reverse light holes.

I swear I've seen a picture of a 2nd gen barracuda at Spring Fling with a shaker offset to the side for a /6.

6 degrees of seperations kinda way, I'm connected to this car. This girl with project 67 Barracuda was asking me advice and tried to get me to work on it. After a while she needed money and had to get rid of it quick. I got hold of a clubmember within hours. She "appreciated" I sold it so quick. They sold to Cory because he thought it was a more solid car than this one. So he sold this 67 to you.

Yep...I know he sold it to me and had another one he had just picked up. I'm pretty sure he's working on a 68 Formula S now.

This car is solid enough...it's just had a few hack jobs done to it. I did discover when I was installing the carpet that the pass front floor board is going to need a patch. Other than that, the only rust I have found on it is on the pass rear 1/4 directly above the tire...there's a spot we found while stripping that is about two inches long...but not very wide. Should be an easy fix. We'll probably dig it out and fill it either with weld or solder.

After I bought it from Corey, I drove it as a daily driver for about a year. Then, my son took it and drove it to school every day for a year+. Now my daughter drives it daily. So, in between her driving it is when we work on it...hence the reason this thread is dragging on. LOL. Probably not going to get much done this weekend because the only day Rick and I will be available together is Sunday and it's supposed to rain! Grrrrrrrrrr.

Please let me know if you dig up any more history/pics of the car.

Thanks!

Mike

Mike,

So now I know where my brother has been for the past few weekends. Its looking good and knowing Rick it will be done right.

That paint gun looks vaguely familiar...

LOL!! Yeah...we been busy. More to follow in a minute. :-)

Today's progress...stripped the trunk lid, roll pan, driver's 1/4, and driver's door. Also primed all the newly stripped panels. Driver's fender and hood are all we have left to strip!! WOOHOO!!

Only rust we've found...we'll fix it another day.

We even got our buddy Hector in on the fun!

100_0331.jpg

It was too dark by the time we finshed spraying to take a shot of the completed primer...tomorrow.

With all that rust I'm surprised you aren't parting it out! :-D

Boy, how does Hector stay so clean?????

LOL...no doubt. He does have a knack for that, huh? Maybe it has something to do with keeping 2 feet of distance between him and the car and leaning over to work...and then just using his finger tips to touch anything. No wonder he has a bad back. LOL!

Today's progress...stripped the hood, driver's fender, & cowl. Also, started filling the roof welds.

Hood welds...

100_0350.jpg

Smoooooth...

100_0351.jpg

Body work 101...a previous body shop mated two fenders together to make one. Yes, the fender was cut in half and mated with another half. Oh, and the front half is a '69 with the marker light filled in with a patch. Go figure.

100_0339.jpg

We also found that the cowl vents had been "replaced" at one time with a welded in patch. The more we strip, the more fun we find. Thankfully, this was the last of the stripping. Shouldn't be any more surprises. Now, hit the shower!

100_0348.jpg

So true...

100_0352.jpg

More fun today...sand blasted some surface rust off the driver's fender, sand blasted the hood welds, filled in some dents and skimmed the hood welds with filler. Also, filled a hole in the driver's fender with lead.

Today's progress...she's finally ALL in primer! Finished up some smoothing of seams on the hood, filled (with lead) the biggest and only second rust hole we found, smoothed out the driver's fender, and shot it all in primer/surfacer. Now the fun begins...blocking. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Amazing, some of the "repair" work you find on these old cars. Looks like you're doing a fantastic job fixing all that stuff. Looks like it's nice and warm there too!! Not so much here in the Iowa midwest.
