Guy I went to school with just had his truck fall on him. Broke his back in three places, it will be a long hospital recovery. He can still move his legs and he said his nurse gave him a "woody" so it could be worse.

Make sure that vehicle is secure before crawling under it.

This is why I always use jack stands and the stands that I use and designed to hold semi trucks in the air! Is it over kill? Yes, but my life and health are way more important.

Whoa. I always think about that when I'm working under the car.

I usually get mine set and shake the crap out of it first to make sure it's solid.

Wishing him well.

X2 Great to hear your friend is relatively OK. I have 2 pairs of 6 ton stands. Overkill? Hell yes but the bases are big and they don't move. I shake mine too to make sure it won't move when I crawl underneath. tmm

Tell your buddy he's on our prayer list here.

Wow, sorry to hear! Yep ya can never overspend on jack stands! Ask your friend for pics of the nurse....in uniform please!

Im dorry to here bout ur friend paryers sent for him . I always when i take the wheels off stack them under the car/truck then when i get the stands where i want them shake the hell of of it i also leave the jack some where under there too at leat with the tires ther and the jack if it falls i have a shot to get out

yeah hope your buddy is well soon.

i rarely get under a car in the driveway. & if i do i have jackstands under it, but since i dont trust them i always slide a full tire & rim under the frame too just in case lol, around where i'm working. i figure if the jackstands ever tipped i could still probably wiggle out

I lost a very good friend when his daughters Grand Am sat down on his chest so yeah your friend is very lucky, blessed, and even a blessing since this thread will probably save someone else from a similar faite.
My thanks and prayers for all.

I use them regularly and i hate them with a passion.Hope your buddy recovers fast, and maybe just maybe the nurse will give him a nice body wash with a smile.

And use quality stands, Not the cheap $10 a pair ones. I have a set of ramps I use when ever possible.

Terrible news, but good to hear he's alive. What I believe is that once you're not afraid of these damn things, you're rolling the dice. I double em up, shake the heck out of the car, and never use that 6' bolt loosener while under it.

As long as they didn't connect the traction pulleys to the wrong pole :O

6 ton, IMO. You will spend a lot more on them but well worth it.

Shop around and you can find some reasonably priced.

Thanks...

Should I steer clear of Harbor Freight?
I have the heavier ones from HF, think they are 6 tons. They hold up my diesel pick-em-up, think it is a touch over 7k pounds with no issues....

I haven't used them, so I couldn't say. When I buy mine I look at construction, thickness of metal and welds. The bigger the base lessons the risk of tip over obviously. Northern tool has some nice ones in the pro series.

I always slip 2 cinder blocks (solid/filled w/concrete) under as "escape insurance".
Just bought some 6,000lb Rhino ramps.... any feedback on these?

Are you talking about Jeremy? I heard about that. That sucks but at least it was a truck and not a car. Had a scare with my car a few years back and it would have straight killed me had I not gotten out.
