Checked with Comp again. I know the tip on the shaft isn't the problem, just wasn't sure how to tell about the compatibility of the gears. Got a technician who double checked & he said my cam doesn't need any special gear & is compatible with the shaft I have.
Whichever piston's I decide to use I'm planning to have the engine balanced.
I was looking on Rock Auto today just to check what they have in the way of harmonic balancers. They list 2 different ones, one for an auto trans & one for a manual trans. Now I'm curious. Were the engines balanced differently depending on the trans they were hooked to? Rock Auto shows the one with the auto trans having the semi-circle cut into the back of it & the manual trans one has two small balancing holes in it. These are Dorman parts, 594132 for the auto & 594131 for the manual. Here's the pics.
