..... and had a blast! I took 6th Ave West to 93 to 72 (Coal Creek Canyon) through Nederland and across the Peak to Peak hwy. From there I hit St. Vrain Canyon and headed down, near the end I turned and came back up the canyon, back over the Peak to Peak, came through Nederland again on 72 then turned down the Golden Gate Canyon to 93 and back home. 160 miles of pure bliss. Burned 3.5 gallons of gas. :) 46 miles per gallon ridden hard and it's NOT a prius, lol.

Here's some pics I took on the Peak to Peak:

The bike ran like a champ and had zero issues. Many of these roads I was on have 10, 15, and 20 mph turns. I wore almost all the little nubbies off my new tires. :) I was baked by the sun, was rained on, had some overcast conditions, saw snow still on the mountains and helped a guy who dumped his bike (he pulled off to the side and got into some soft sand, he was fine, just embarassed).

Almost all the riders gave the wave as did even some cagers which was suprising as hell. One guy in a pickup even pulled to the side to let me by and no, I wasn't riding his tail. Harleys, metrics, sport and touring bikes were all just revelling in the day and road. It was awesome.

I bet you had a great time. And the pictures are spectacular.

Thanks OTR, I wish I could have got pics of the tight sections but there was no room to pull over safely. Note the absence of guardrails. It would be pretty easy to sail off into oblivion, lol.

Edit: Note the rider coming in from the right on the 3rd picture down. That was pure chance but kind of a cool shot. I must've seen over a 100 bikes today.

I see that your vacation time is being used correctly Joe :D
Congratulations on a great day on your KZ 1000 Kawasaki you have turned into a dream machine :hello2:
LMAO!!! 46 miles per gallon ridden hard and it's NOT a prius :D

Sounds like you had a great ride !!
Cool looking old 1000 Kawi.

Take it to Deals Gap and the Tail Of The Dragon 318 curves in 11 miles.

Took all the chicken strips on both bikes that I took there.

I thought you'd like that Mike!

Better than half the Harley riders were pulling off into the mountain bars. Not me bro, I like my head in one piece and all my limbs in place. :D It would've been fun but I saved my beer drinking for when I got home.... I'm on number 2. :glasses7:

Mike, the bike handled better than stock but 1" lowered forks and some progressive springs are on the menu for this winter. I'm also going to replace the swingarm plain bushings for roller bearings and maybe mate up a 'Zuki GS 1100E swingarm.

I NEED to get one of those helmet cams. I wonder how many curves there were where I rode? I didn't count but my shoulders are killing me!

I've heard of those roads and they are a must do!

You know right where I'm coming from Dave and thanks for the kudos on the old kaw. I love these old bikes and I know them like the back of my hand. Digging your H3 too! What kind of bike is the Honda?

Excellent scenery

Had my best rides flying up Mt Baker in WA

Thanks megajoltman! Looks like you were having the time of your life and that GSXR, great bike for this type of riding. I wasn't trying to set a world speed record on the old KZ, just some "spirited" riding... wink, wink...

No problem whatsoever Mike, feel free.... I do!

Nice Ford and nice bike! It looks much bigger than a 600. Will Creed let you go for a ride on the bike?

I'm halfway through #3. :tard: lol!

Just opened #3, I love that cool bike, and it fits my short legs great.
He always tell's me to take it out dad, we don't know what tomorrow will bring :D and I have a few times for a short 1/2 hour back road trip. It runs real good for a 600.

he tells me the hell with what the doc;s say it's today dad:angel8:

Looks like a good ride, Joe. I'm jealous! Haven't been out on my old Kawi since I started working down in Santa Ana over a year ago. Too many crazy commuting drivers on the 55 Fwy. That and my wife and I are able to commute and use the car pool lane since we work only two offramps apart.
Keep on enjoying!
I know what you mean by "sailing off into oblivion". I was fortunate to slide into the mountain the only time I've been down in the local mountains. The other way would have been a smooth slide but a much harder landing.

He has a good point Mike. Those new metric cruisers are pretty torquey, even in the small sizes.

Yessir, sliding off the down side is much smoother...... for about 10 seconds... :joker: Next time you get some time off, make a day of it and get the heck off the main roads, you know exactly what I mean. :D I don't mean to preach to the chior here....

good deal

Yes sir it was. :burnout:

Ramcharger,
The black bike is a Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird. It was the bike that caused Suzuki to bring out the Hayabusa.
The orange one is a 72 Kaw 500 triple.
I bought it new and raced it for 4 years.

Neat video by JayDave on his 750 at the 2008 Kaw Triples meet at Deals Gap........30mph speed limit

Aha! I kept thinking Nighthawk but I knew that wasn't it. Very nice!

Great vid, looks like he thought he got busted on that second siren... :D I would think that his "chicken strips" are quite narrow, lol.

They are Denco big tube chambers that I bought back in 72/73.

Pardon my brain fart, that's a H2. Those pipes are in amazing condition, that's why I asked.

Brought the bike back to the painter for the free cut and buff and sure enough the clouds and thunder started rolling in......

Yesterday I went for a 2.5 hour bike ride on my Husky. Canyon and trail riding with a friend on our enduros. Lot me tell you that my a$$ will never be the same, but it was so much fun.

Excellent!

Yea, that bananna seat on mine leaves a lot to be desired too. Looks cool, but zero support on acceleration. I think I'll get a Corbin seat in the future.
