kb 745 stroker piston issue

Heey

i need some relaxng replys, 1 of my pistons have dent next to the 2nd ring groove.. i think its in the gass acumlator.. would i need to buy a new or could i use it as this? i put a picture of the damage

I think I'd take some fine emery cloth and small files and see if I could clean up the jagged edges a bit and give it a try. That really isn't much damage and doesn't appear to be in a critical part of the piston. If it does let go, you will have enough warning to shut it off and save the cylinder wall.

I would'nt chance anything......cost too much money. Send it back and have it replaced!! You paid for a perfect piston!!

the notch is rly small , tough i wonder if it will leak some of the gasses and consentrate it on the ring where the dent is.. maybe make the ring jam.. i was hoping that someone had a go with a dented piston before and had luck

I've had pistons break before without any help. The edges of that cut will probably get some real hot spots. Just replace it and smoke the tires, not the block. My $ .02

2nd rings are not compression rings. The sealing is done by the top ring only. The second is by design an oil scraper. I'd deburr it and run it as long as the ring land measures consistant accross the dent. If the land was made smaller that will cause a problem. Use a ring and some thin feeler gages to measure the ring's side gap.

Tnx guys, i think i will give it a try.. ill do as Moper suggested maybe clean sharp eges to.. actualy all the pistons have very sharp edges around the top and in the valve reliefs hmmm maybe carefully sand em a bit?

run a lite file around the crown/outter edge of the piston and on the ding, It'll be fine.jmo

I had a piston installed on the rod fall off the bench hit & rolled of the top of my foot then hit the ground, the rod pushed 1 of the skirts outward so that it didn't fit in the bore, so I tapped it out with a small dead blow hammer till I got the skirt clearance I needed.
It runs fine 6000+RPM.

I sent the pictures to KB so they could judge it, i need to do some ringfiling before assembly anyways so i have the time to wait for reply, tnx guys for the ideas anyways.
