Hey

Can someone explain to me the point/need of using lead supplement? I was thinking I had to at first, never added any, and have always been curious to what it would do, or if I should be added always, or from time to time??

Motor is 70 340, stock internals, with LD340, headers, cam..

Thanks,

Shane!

Lead was added to gasoline years ago as a anti-knock or anti-ping additive. It was also thought to lubricate the valve guides. toolman

www.thenation.com/doc/20000320/kitman This is the reason why it was removed from gasoline

the lead puts a layer of lead on the valves and the valve seats so the heat doesn't burn the valve and seats. you can have hardend seats installed but, to me it does not make a difference if you don't change the valves also.
