I like those numbers.

350+ ft/lbs from 2500-4000 rpm is plenty fine for a street driven A-body cruiser in my book.

And 8.2:1 comp, too.

Both cams made peak torque and peak horsepower at the same rpm. Both of them, when they got into their power range, just held on and kept going.

A little more camshaft sure doesn't appear to hurt it anywhere! :)
 
I appreciate you sharing your results with us, especially the mild lo comp combos. The magazines usually focus on the megabuck builds.
 
Yes sir, it is. The enemies are all the magazines and forums talkin about ultra high horse power, turbo this and stroker that everything. You simply don't have to do all that to have a car that will slap get with it and no mater how hard you try, you cannot get that across to these young guys who wouldn't know 500 horse power if it ran over them.

Well said, Rob. Most people wouldn't even know what to do with 400- 500hp in any car.
 
I'm surprise how well a stock 318 cam does in a 360, but the 260 cam is all gain, goes with what I've heard around 270 degrees is where you start trading bottom end for top end power.
 
The formula is very easy. The hard part is the person's head you're trying to explain it too.

All they want is a Thumpr cam.

That motor represents what probably over 95% of people want and they don't even know it. That kinda torque on the bottom end would slap obliterate tires with decent gears and you just cannot tell people that no matter how hard you try.

Good little read, great mild 360 that could be done on a budget... I coulda used info like this 15 yrs ago... I've tried to explain this fact to a guy recently, its not all about topend HP, or what the mags/shows say it will or should have...
 
I would love to see what that motor would do with the 340 cam and the Comp 268 but so far I like the results because it almost duplicates my affordable level fantasy engine build for my car.Thanks for sharing. This is one for the few places where people build engines that have "real world " applications and where small blocks get some respect and I for one appreciate it.:burnout:
 
Now for the final act of madness with the 360.

Finished the dyno runs Friday and the owner had to have the truck Saturday. So my son was forced to take his Saturday, come to the shop and do the R&R.

Have a sign on the shop entrance.

Shop labor rate $60/hr
You watch $90/hr
You help $120/hr

The owner thought he was going to help and the R&R would be FREE!

I said, "If you are that good of a helper that my son and the shop are worth nothing, I'm firing him, locking the shop doors and you can take your truck and engine and install everything in your front yard." Would have loved to watch him figure out where to weld the 360 external balance weights on his 318 torque converter.

He drove off stone faced angry driving his 360 powered 4x4 because I made him pay for the removal of the old 318 and the installation of the 360.

Never even got a 'thank you' after buying his lunch.

The 340 cam is actually pretty small cam and probably similar power as the 260 cam being used.
 
Just curious, what in your opinion would be the
next step to increasing torque without moving
it up the rpm range.

Have you ever played with a slant six like this? I've seen a few small/big block of these, I just think a slant would be the cat's meow, even if they don't make even close to the same power.

When I worked for Hyster I ran into numbskulls like that. Makes you want to poke them in the eye with a dull stick

There is a slant 6 coming up for a '65 Barracuda but it will be a performance version.
