I am getting ready to order a few things from Summit and would appreciate any thoughts on these two items.

Lifters: I have been looking at the Lunati 71977-1 that use a ring as a retainer instead of a spring wire. Are the ring type more secure? This will be in a 360 street engine with a Lunati 60401 VooDoo cam.

Head Gaskets: Does anyone know if the head gaskets in the Mr Gasket 7112 kit are any good?

Thanks!

I would stay away from any lfiter that uses that flat spring steel retainer. I used to see them only from Edelbrock but there was a post on here IIRC on Comps that had the same design. The wire clip is the better of the two IMO. I normally use a Fel Pro gasket set, and Mr Gasket Ultraseal intake gaskets. So I think you probably just have a typical composite gasket. Keep surfaces clean, chase the threads, torque in steps, and they'll be fine. Probably around .045-.050" compressed.

Good information on the lifters....and scary too...

I had originally picked Mr Gasket Ultra Seal #1121 for a head gasket but since I need to buy the engine kit anyway, I thought if the head gaskets in the kit were decent I might use them.

Definitely don't want any head gasket trouble. It's Magnum heads on an LA block.
