Hi All,

I am looking for some advice as I don't know a lot about car restoration, ect.

I have been charged with the task of selling my Grandmothers 1979 Duster that has been sitting outside for the past 13 years. It is in the condition you would think a car that has been sitting outside for that long. Engine is a slant 6. 62,000 miles. Its in rough shape, but I could see someone restoring it.

My question is, is it worth selling? how much? or is it easier to send it to the wreckers?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, its probably worth something, whether it be as a whole car, or as parts. As has been said, post some pictures and a complete description of the cars condition, ie: rust, running or not, condition of interior, etc. You'll get many opinions here, and then go from there

1979, plymouth valiant duster 340, 2 door.4 cylinder. model # HL 29, hardtop, 225 c.l.d engine size

It hasn't run in a lot of years, but ran great when it did. Rust on wheel wells for sure. The interior is butterscotch/Plaid. I don't know if its salvageable. Fabric is a bit stained and it still smells of cigarette smoke.

340,..................4 cylinder

better try agin none of that fits the photo?

wouldn't be a 340 in 79, you said it's a 225 which ain't a 340, and a 225 is a 6 cyl, not a 4 cyl.

there places on the internet you can look up the vin 'n find out what it actually is.

the grille is worth money (I thought it was an Aspen grille at first)

if in perfect mint shape, people ask as much as $400 dollars for them, if damaged maybe as much as 100 dollars

List the car on forfmjbodiesonly.com or aspenandvolare.com and you will get some interest.

sell the grille separate from the car if it looks good- ask $400, don't accept less than $100

small trim pieces sell for money but you have to ask yourself how long do you want to fool around with buyers

You have to call several times to the scrap yards and ask what they are paying per 10 pounds of metal when regarding a complete automobile

A1979 Duster would be on the Volare platform I think

There are some interest in these cars

Again post some pictures, get as much info as you can on the car, location included

If in rough shape, (that is subjective to the person either looking or selling) not worth a lot. As others have stated might be worth more as parts but then you have to deal with parting it out.

Good luck

It's always easier to send it to the wreckers, but.....
If it has the 2 barrel carb on it with the original manifold and kick down linkage complete, (if it's an automatic) they are worth some money too.
I'll go out on a limb here and say $400 complete? (If it's good and complete with every nut, bolt, and screw.)
What transmission is in it? a 4 speed overdrive? They are worth some money complete with shifter etc.....
Sadly, the car might get you more money parted out than whole.
Then scrap the rest for whatever a pound.
Pics would go a long way here.
