They use 383 head pipes so they are the same sizeDoes anyone know what the exhaust pipe diameter was on the M-code 440 darts? Were they 2-1/4 head pipes like the 383's or larger? What about the tail pipe diameter?
Factory h pipe on an A body?
No it originally came off of a 440 car but I don't know what model I hacked it up and attached it to my headers for a long time.but now it's just something I keep not really sure why.
Here are the NOS 69 A-Body 340/383/440 tail pipes I bought at the WPC swap a couple of years ago, definitely different than my NOS 68 pipes...69 would have the same tailpipes as a 340; 2.25" to 2" to about 1.625" where they slid into tips.
Just checked my 69 parts book and the tailpipes and mufflers were the same for 340/383 as well as the front manifold to pipe gaskets on 383/340.
Well, that would make sense. Road Runners never got 2.5 inch head pipes, so why would an A body 383?I don’t believe 383 ever came with 2.5 head pipes from the factory.
I bought a complete 383 A-Body kit from Accurate 20 years ago and it came with a 2-piece headpipe, and the mufflers had to have two reducers to use the NOS tail pipes I had. They said if I would have picked them up at a show pre-ordered I could have gotten one piece headpipes...Partial update:
Accurate does have a selection and up-charge for the M-code Dart on a complete system. They also have separate listings for 2.5 inch head pipes for the 440, and 2.25 for the 383. Waiting to hear back from tech to see what size the tailpipes are in the M-code complete system.
