I am curious how some of you have completed the relocation of the wheel well specifically at the frame rail; The frame rail has a lip on the top where it meets the trunk pan that rolls out to the outside of the rail (about a .75 inch lip).

My question is when you mini-tubbed it did you grind away that lip on the frame rail or did you just move the wheel well in as far as the lip on the frame rail?

On both of my cars, I cut away the lip and welded the frame rail solid. If you are mini-tubbing, you gain about an inch. If you are tubbing, you have a flat surface to mount to.

Cool.. That is what I figured. I hated to lose that little bit of realestate. Thanks for the quick reply. I am heading back to the garage now.

The guy that is doing mine tried to leave that lip intact. I went out this week to look at my car and told him that was unacceptable. I made him grind it flush with the frame rail, and then run a weld where the two seams separated. Then he ground the weld down flush. He wasn't very happy about it.

Need all the extra clearance we can get there.

I cut the lip off mine when i mini-tubbed it then welded the floor and frame together.
