Mopar 360 have anything in common with AMC 360?

I have an edelbrock performer intake for sale on Craigslist. Some guy texted me wanting to know if it would fit his 304?

I was like, did you mean 340?

He says no he has a 304 AMC in his Jeep. And he thought it might fit cause the 304 has the same block as a 360.

Is he talking AMC 360? Can't be the same as a Mopar right?
 
No, not the same. Some guys use AMC lifters in their SB Mopars, but that is a pure and simple accident. AMCs are as different from Mopars as are Fords. And on that note, I bought a 360 Mopar core not long ago. There were photos of it on CL. Seller told me some idiot Ford guy drove *** miles to get it, looked at it, PAID for it, and then said something that triggered the seller. Like "going to put it in my F150" etc

One thing that REALLY gripes my *** are people who put up ads on Efray and CL for 383 and 360 parts, etc, that are CHEVY strokers, without saying so. They think there's nothing else

Don't they (mopar and amc blocks) have the same bellhousing bolt pattern?
 
Its still suprises me that people think "AMC" from the 70s had anything to do with Mopars from the 70s. I guess it comes from the fact that chrysler bought jeep I guess in the early 90s, and back in the day AMC bought parts from all the big 3.... ford electrical, chrysler torqueflight transmissions, GM 4 cylinder engines, ect.

They do!!! And so do a few other folks. But the CASE is built specially to fit an AMC engine!!!

IHC used them behind their own engines, and maybe you are aware that some IHCs (Scouts and light trucks) came with AMC engines. This lead to confusion, because IHC renamed the CID of one engine (I forget which way that went, 400/401) and guys were forever confusing AMC / IHC built engines for buying parts.

There's other little glitches here and there. Some of you may not realize that Mopar built some A833 OD 4 speeds with a GM bolt pattern....

the amc has the distributor on the front, which is handy.....I have always dis-liked the distributor in the back on mopar SBs .....some of us have a hard time reaching all the way in there without getting on the inner fender/engine and there is no way I am getting in there with the engine running.

It was the IHC 400 and in dads 1/2 ton IHC it was a power house that would pull anything or melt both back tires at the same time.

I dont blame you after my fan accident almost 3 weeks ago I am almost afraid to open the hood with it running.
 
I know a dude who had a fast as hell Gremilin back in the day, Im thinking the AMC 360 is "faster" :)

Ford did have a 360. 390bb de stroked i believe. It was in some half tons. Figure people would be smart enough to ask though

Ain't ez being fun size is it? It gets worse on the trucks. Even tall guys have a time reaching.

All I know about AMC's could fill up the first half of a front page of a pamphlet, but, I do know that if some AMC clown challenges you to a race, IF he knows what the hell he is doing, you stand a good chance of getting your clock clean right good.

Well done heads from Indy and OE production large displacement engines can be quite mean.

I just can't see myself going fast in a Gremlin or Pacer. But around he we used to have a Javalin that was, LOL, very peppy, LMAO!

IHC ALSO used AMC 401's but they RENAMED THEM 400 to differentiate between IHC's native 401. This caused all sorts of confusion, because a "bright mechanic" would look at that AMC and say "I know what THAT is, THAT is an AMC 401."

So the "bright mechanic" goes to the parts store and tells the parts store guy "I have an IHC with a 401, and I need x, y, z"

So the parts guy looks up junk for an INTERNATIONAL 401 and the "bright mechanic" has to come back when the parts don't fit!!
 
Old thread but I'll add this for some arguin. The AMC cylinder head is way ahead of most anything built in the same era. Lots of Pro Stock heads were designed after them. The port configuration is really good.

On the transmissions, they also used the Turbo 400 GM transmissions, too. A lot. AMC's engines were extremely well built and very reliable.
 
Lifters....Jeep used the AMC 360's. AMC Dog leg heads flowed very well. Trivia: What was the AMC Police motor package called?
