I am in the process of putting a PerTronix 1381-A on my 66 Newport. I would like to bypass the ballast resistor and use a PerTronix 40511 3.0 ohm coil. I have a MSD 8202 which has a primary resistance of 0.7 ohms and a secondary resistance of 4.5k ohms. Not being much of a electrical guru, I am not sure if MSD will work properly or if I should purchase the new PerTronix.
What do you think?

im not much of one either but i cant imagine why the msd wouldnt work, what i have setup

Pertronix just informed me that I need the part# 40011. This one has a primary resistance of 1.5 ohms.

The "Flame-Thrower III 45,000 Volt Canister Coil" charges much faster, and is designed with high RPM and/or Multispark in mind. I had my Pertronix Ignitor III 'Plug n Play' Billet Distributor running with an MSD coil, i changed to the FTiii coil and noticed a big change in acceleration from standstill, but even bigger, more power on the fly. I recommend the Flame-Thower III coil for sure.
