I dont have a pic of it because he took and threw it and the rest the blade away. It was about 6 inches of the end of 1 blade with about 1 1/2 inch of steel still riveted to it.

I had a friend/co-worker die from getting his forehead sliced open to the brain by a flex fan.

He was a good guy and his son was standing next to him helping him when it happened.

Terrible deal. Get rid of them if you have them in your car.:wack:

I too wish you well. I've always wondered about the life expectancy of plastic that is spun around.

That's terrible man! Is there a way the mods can change the title of this thread to add something like:

MUST READ:The Danger of Running Flex Fans

I skimmed passed the thread many times before finally opening it and reading about this. I think it is very important to get the word out, even though it has been said many times before.

    Damn dude.
I had a full steel blade come off my 440 Roadrunner once when I was standing beside the car (for that exact reason) and it went clear through the shroud and hood both and we never saw it again.

It left about a 10 inch split in the hood and kept right on going.
Never heard or saw where it went.

So you are a left handed pecker now? :D

Get well soon and I hope you don't have any lasting damage from it.

pretty sure ford had a recall on fans back in the '70s, wonder how many incidents were reported to them? Hope you heal quick, and 100%!

I suppose anything can fail but I hear more bad stories about flex fans. Thermal type fan for me.

Glad you are OK and hope for a full and speedy recovery.

Yep, at about 5k it let go and one entire blade apparently left the zip code.
It snapped off right where the blade arm met the hub and it also darn near tore the motor mounts off before it idled back down from being off balance.

After that I started making sure I wasn't inline with the blades when I revved it and a week or so later I had a ratchet roll over on the top of the battery and shorted the pos post to the body and the battery exploded right in my face where I was leaning over the fender.
At first I thought the fan got me because of the week earlier.

One cap put a dent in the hood and another one hit an overhead electric supply for the house and the wire was bouncing around all the way down to the next pole.
My Dad heard the boom and came running out to see what it was and the next thing I know I got picked up like a mother cat does a kitten and my feet never touched the ground again until he was splashing water in my face from the faucet outside.

I was pretty glad he was there when that one happened because I couldn't see crap.

Was making a full quarter mile pass,in my Rat powered El Camino. Somewhere around 6300_in second gear, the plastic radiator shroud broke loose & hit the OEM fan blade(Mopar OEM clutch fan,adapted.). The shroud exploded hard enough,to remove paint & dent the hood heavily. Just damn....

I wonder how much harmonics play in them exploding.
Loose water pump bearing, fan spacer etc.

Personally I think it has a lot to do with it, because I have heard popping noises before from the water pump area with an engine running and found out it was a crack in the fan hub.
I figure if it was popping because it's moving around so it must be doing something to make it move around.

Not to mention dissimilar metals bonded together and exposed to many weather cycles.

Damn good to hear you didn't get hurt worse.

Dump em if you have em!
