Measured piston "dome" volume today. Hope to check combustion chambers tomorrow. Parts list: Vaseline, blank CD, food coloring, carpenter's level [all stuff I found around the house], alcohol [two bucks], 20 cc syringe from veterinarian supply store (without needle) [55 cents]. I figure I got it right +- 1 cc.

I figured the four valve reliefs in the 72-73 340 pistons to have a volume of 6.9 cc. I used the piston down in the cylinder bore 1/2 inch method and subtracted the known cylinder volume of a .040 over 340 block (4.08 = 107.1 cc) And my cylinder volume with piston was 114 cc.

If anyone knows any different on my calculations, please let me know and I will recheck. Thank you.

Never thought of using a CD. I always used a piece of plexiglass.

Not real certain a CD would be all that accurate. Ideally, you want the cylinder tilted, and the hole near the top, to get all air bubbles out.
