I`ve ran the biggest tires I can fit in the car on about every hotrod I built. Widest was 16x32 1/2" slicks, the narrowest are the 295 65 15 d.r. on my 68 fastback. I do street drive it some, it burns so much gas I don`t drive it every day. I have a couple of times ran a little smaller rims than was recommended, and ran the tires w/ a lower air pressure to make up for it. Running 22 lbs. on the 295`s now , on the 8" rims to get the tread flat on the ground, Seems to be ok, but all my cars have either been drag cars or street n strip type cars. Not interested in any roundy round stuff, as I grew up doing that on the street , too much traffic now to even think about what we used to do. TOO OLD TO !!

I have a 68 Dart GTS and does anyone know if a 255/70/15 using a 15 X 7 rim with a 4.25 backspacing with stock suspension work or will it be to close for comfort
I'm going to say no. A 245/60-15 would not even fit on my '69 GTS with 7" wide 4.25" backspace wheels. They were just about guaranteed to fit by most internet "experts", but there isn't physically room for a tire with a 10" cross-section on my car, no matter what wheel I used.

That sounds good, and it'll look great.

Well, I guess its time for an update to show you how it turned out. I made some minor changes from the original plan. Here's the result. Front: Coker BFG Silvertown, P 215/65R15. Back: Coker BFG Silvertown, P 225/70R15. The rims: Chrysler O.E. Style, Steel, Black, 15x 6", 5 x 4.5", 3.75" backspace.

Edit: Yes, the 8 3/4 is there as well.
