My search for a shorty D100 is over

So, for @Turbo440Dart wedding the bare minimum was done to get the truck to the venue. That included NOT having registration or license plates or any of that other nonsense. Hey it’s only illegal if you get caught right? Well, today I took the truck to the DMV for a vin verification (required in Ca when the truck comes from out of state) and title transfer. They gave me a temporary moving permit to get it to a certified scale to get it weighed (required for all trucks in Ca for some dumb *** reason) and I got everything done, including insurance. So now I’m just waiting for the DMV to approve my original blue Ca license plates or send me new ones and she’s legal. Here’s a fun game (not really) but how much do y’all think she weighs? 1973 D100 shortbed sweptline 100% stock steel body, small block magnum, overdrive 46re trans 8-1/4” diff on steel wheels. I’ll be back later to show the weight ticket to see who’s closest.

3490.

Also, you weren’t the only one without tags on a vehicle. They can only catch one of us

When i worked for the used car dealer i would take cars home....I few times I would get home
"Look no plate"
Then I would have to drive it back worried I would get stopped....
Drove to Edison to pick up a Ferrari..
Oops no plate ...that one had me worried

All the guesses are in?

The answer is 3640 lbs with a 1/2 tank of fuel. She’s a heavy pig. I thought these were around 3200, but I guess i was wrong. Ive already started thinking of ways to lighten it easily. Wheels, aluminum this or that, but in reality it cruises really nice and there are other things to worry about. It needs a C notch in the rear frame pretty bad and the bump stops in the front need to be hacked off and re made. You should see the streets in my town, we’re notorious for our crappy roads so frame to suspension contact makes my back cry for help. That’ll be the next project.

So, with a full tank I was damn close too with 3725

As for roads, come visit here my friend...

Yea maybe. I don’t even know how big the stock tank behind the seat is. I’ll guess 20 gallons or so. So +80lbs or so for a full tank. 3720, you missed it by 5 by my redneck math. Well done.

I have no comparison really because I haven’t been up that way but Norco is notorious for bad roads. I drive down my street like a snake avoiding potholes that will eat a Honda civic.

You could always pull out that pig v8 and put a slant in it

Oh look who has jokes today. We all know that’s definitely NOT going to happen. Plus the slant with the 3 speed manual and all cast iron bits (intake, exhaust, water pump, etc) was noticeably harder on my engine hoist than the magnum and 46re. I’d bet they’re fairly close with a 50 or so pound edge (lighter) going to the magnum. Also my new 5” aluminum driveshaft was less than half the weight of the original steel shaft. I’m betting over all it’s lighter now. Wish I weighed it before.

i was wondering what the weight difference will be when i swap my 340 into my dart ....i guess i'll need to weight it before and after

I don't either, but ours are horrible. New roads last a couple years. Mostly due to the frost I believe. And all the salt/brine they use. Snow melts into cracks and freezes expanding and making it heave or crack more. Entire cement sections out of place like driving on whoops. Worst in spring. Heading up by Mum this weekend. 250miles of bouncing in my old 1 ton truck.

At least you have a reason for it. Our reason is……….no one cares.
