My search for a shorty D100 is over

Today was bumpstop day. Anyone else have that on their calendar? No? Just me? Ok. The few miles I’ve put on the truck since lowering it had my back crying for help since we did nothing but change the ride height. Today I did the rest of what needed to happen to the front suspension so that things don’t go solid over every bump making me wonder where I’m going to loose control. I cut 2” off the original bump stop mounts and 1” off the bottom of the bump stop itself. Made a flat plate for a new mount and welded it all back together giving the suspension its full range of travel again. Brief test drive down my absolutely terrible street was wonderful. It does NOT drive like a 1983 Nissan hardbody with cut springs any longer. I’d say it’s perfect but now I have to C notch the rear. Maybe I’ll start on that tomorrow.

Sunday funday, or Sunday Rusty *** broken bolt day as it was around my garage. After Easter lunch I headed out to the garage and decided to start work on the rear of the truck. Didn’t get nearly as far as I would have liked but I made progress. Two of the bolts holding the bed on (there are only 6 btw) were not giving up and got the hot knife. I’m pretty sure the other 4 gave up easily after seeing what I did to their friends. I did get the bed off, and started cleaning off the frame of unused bracketry (exhaust hangers and bumpstop stuff) getting ready for the notch. Happy Easter everyone, the bed has risen.

Might as well bump the dent out on the box since you can get at it easier now!!

"since lowering it"...??....seems like these days everyone and their brother thinks that's what has to happen with these trucks.. . As I shake my head ..... That's what you get.... should have left that part of it alone

I knew all along that changing the ride height would effect ride quality if that alone is all you did. Like I said earlier in the thread, the bare minimum was done to get the truck to the wedding. Now I’m finishing the necessary modifications to make it have the ride quality at the new lowered stance. None of this is a surprise to me, it was expected from day 1. Once I am finished with the suspension the truck will ride as good or better than stock because it will have the stock amount of travel, the same spring rates, and better quality shocks. Only it will look way better because it’s 5” lower. That last part is my opinion and if you ask me I’m always right.

Got half of the mini C notch and frame boxing done the other night and forgot to post it. Hopefully I’ll get the other side done tonight. I just got a confirmation from summit that my shocks will deliver today so the back end will be all buttoned up before spring fling.

Trust me it’s centered over the axle when it’s at ride height and compression.

D series trucks are for lowering, W series is for liftin’ you didn’t get the email?

My old '89 Short bed 2wd with a V6 weighed 3750 with no spare, no jack and 1/4 tank of gas. That was some time ago.

ohhh... looky here! another one to lower!

somebody better get on this and you can be brothers from another mother!

MAJOR RED X TIME
Oh come on Don, I think it was on page 1 or 2 of this thread where I said the only thing better than a shorty D100 is a lowered shorty D100. It’s very hard for me to believe that anyone would say this doesn’t look good.

Well gents, I didn’t stop to take pictures so I apologize but the truck is all back together and finished, with regards to the suspension. The C notch in the rear with new shocks, and moving the bump stops 3” up in the front made all the difference in ride quality. Put the bed back on it last night with help from a couple friends and made some passes around my block. All I can say is it’s about as perfecter as it’s gonna get. I’m very happy with it. Runs good, moves out really well, and rides excellent. I have a few wiring projects to handle, a torque converter lockup switch, and a relay to send ground to the trans controller when the brakes are applied and she’ll be all ready for the spring fling this weekend. See ya there!

I hate to say it, but @volaredon was absolutely right.

Stopped by @TT5.9mag place last night and got a ride in the d100. That truck is absolutely ruined. I rode in it when it was stock so I can make a fair/accurate assessment of the before and after lowering ride quality. I mean, after lowering it, it’s just so much easier to get into, it rides EXACTLY how it did before being lowered. Just ruined a perfectly good truck.:mob:

It really is a pile now that I’ve lowered it, threw the 6 in the trash, put in 360hp and overdrive, and ruined the interior with all that horrible 338 bright blue. You shoulda just taken it home last night and put me out of my misery.
