My search for a shorty D100 is over

Holy Chit. I'm no stranger to lifting automatics off the ground but INSTALLING THEM? hats off to you but you've gotta be crazy doing that. (in a good way)
I’ve installed a few in my day. But I gave up on this one. The 46re is a heavy pig of a transmission.

Critical speed, schmitical schpeed
Bonneville guys will get that. New 5 inch aluminum driveshaft from inland empire driveline is installed. The D100 is officially V8 powered.

Tell me the muffler hanger isn't as close as it looks.
It’s definitely not, and also it’s for the old exhaust so it’s coming off. A better shot from more rearward shows a better perspective.

Tell me more about that driveshaft. 5" diameter, what length? I was looking at a 4" which would be good for 7400 but 5" would be better for OD.
I pulled a 5” driveshaft out of a 2500 dodge truck with a 46re trans that was at a wrecking yard, took it to Inland empire driveline with measurements and the slant 6/3 speed driveshaft and said make me one out of these two. He shortened the 5” to 47-3/4” which gave me 3/4”-1” of slip at the tail shaft and put in a combination joint that was 1350 on one side and 1310 on the other. Easy peasy. And cheap.

Thanks. That is the process I did on my hot rod. I need ~57" and thought of a new one from scratch. 4" rated for 7400 should be fine - I think. Just much more expensive. Not many at wrecking yards here. They wreck them all when fork lifting the vehicles in the yard.

Also got the trans controller wired up and installed and a base tune in it. Currently I’m using all of the default values listed in the instructions which will get it moving according to TJ at ETrans control. It’s not reading MPH so I think my speed sensor is bad but that’s an easy fix. The display is very 80s looking to me but I don’t really care, the controller will work with the display unplugged. So after tuning I’ll pull it and stick it in the glove box. I drove it down the street and back last night and had it running for about an hour. Good news, it doesn’t leak anything amd doesn’t overheat, runs really damn good, and is raspy. Bad news trans didn’t shift out of first. That I think will be fixed with a speed sensor and some throttle pressure adjustment.

The yards here are littered with dodge trucks. I went yesterday looking for a harness for a vss and had my choice of three different 2001 model 2500s. Lucky.

This is the local driveshaft shop to me, they build everything from custom to race and everything in-between. Very highly recommended. Just give em your measurements and tell them the application ect they can ship to your door.

Tonight I installed the Bouchillon performance torqueflight throttle pressure and throttle cable bracketry (very nice, quality stuff), I replaced the VSS in the tail shaft and got a mph readout on the display and figured out that I had the 5v reference from the trans controller to the tps wired to the wrong pin. I got everything working perfectly during testing so it was time to drive it. I spent about an hour pissing off my neighbors driving up and down my street tuning on it and made great progress. The controller and trans respond to every change I make and it’s pretty easy to get it to do what you want. As of now I have 3 nice crisp forward shifts (haven’t gone fast enough for OD or lockup yet) that get harder with throttle, and are soft while cruising. The shift timing needs a little work and the throttle percentage gain needs a little work. I give the controller a 10/10 so far. I couldn’t be happier with it. My interior guy assured me this morning that my seat will be finished on Friday (you’ll like my temporary seat) so that will be a last minute install. Looks like the little white D100 will make the Saturday wedding deadline after all.

Got a bunch more tuning done, both on the transmission and on the engine. The engine all of the sudden started running like dog poo two days ago and spitting fuel out of the front float bowl on my trusty 3310 that’s been on at least 10 engines on my run stand. So apart it came and I saw something Ive never seen before. A plastic Holley float full of fuel. But not leaking. A total WTF moment. A quick trip to westech and my buddy Troy sold me a pair of nitrophyl floats and high flow needles (might as well) and we’re back in business. The last piece of the puzzle showed up this morning. My interior guy has had my seat for 4 weeks now waiting on the correct 1973 dodge material and the wait was worth it. The truck will make its maiden voyage to Chris’ wedding today. Now for the pics, enjoy.

Truck is looking great
You need to go find that float and put a lighter to it
Your find the split....

Looks awesome buddy! Have a great time! Can't wait to see it in person

Mike I truly owe you for everything to help make this happen. I’m bummed we didn’t get to cruise together last night. They definitely wanted my car GONE at the end of the day.

I’m just glad to be a part of it. Was a great wedding. Hot rods and In N Out burger. Pretty much ranks at the top of a short list of weddings I’ve been to.

The D100s maiden voyage was a complete success. It didn’t even leak anything on the precious concrete at the wedding venue. Bonus points because my chick loves it.
