need help keeping up with a friend

ok so i have a friend who has a SS camaro T top with a LS1 so.... it already sounds like he will beat me... but i want to know what i can do to keep up with him anything ??? or should i just have him wait for me at the finish line

i guess i dont really understand your question there is a ton of stuff you can do to make it faster but you seem to have a new idea everyday. Are you still building the 360 if so that will help. Really what you need to do is settle on a plan and go for it try to quit thinking so much and just follow through with whatever you decide on dont worry about making your car faster than your friends car just build an all around reliable car that you can enjoy. 360 build is set and will smoke him no prob

318 is in the car still but i want to race my friend what can i do to make it faster without spending alot of money maybe 200 max

so the 318 is coming out when the 360 is done correct what rear end do you have in it. Maybe you should consider rear end gears if you plan on keeping the current rear in it after the 360 goes in something like 3:55 or higher there again you need to know what you are doing with the car when you are done if only driving around once in a while for fun you could even go with 4:10 though not the best choice if you are going to be doing a lot of freeway driving. The only other advice i can give you is do a good tune up on the 318 set the timing make sure everything is working right adjust the carb etc. by tune up i dont mean plugs wires etc. unless you need them. I just mean make sure the engine doesnt bog etc. Good luck and what ever you do do let that chevy kick you a** or i wont respond to you anymore haha

let that chevy kick my@$$????? lol ok so i need a timing lite and i was prolly gonan go with like 3.91 gears but i think the farthest i would ever drive it is 2hrs to local track so maybe 4.10s? hmmm sounds like fun with a sure grip =)

yeah that would be a lot of fun but i am afraid you blew your 200 dollar budget there. That is why i ask what rear end you have if you have a rear you are planning on keeping 8.25 or 8.75 you dont have to worry so much about spending more than 200 bucks cause you will still be able to use them once the 360 is in no money wasted that way. If you have a 7.25 dont even waste your time with gears get a whole new rear end. Also if you are trying to save money you can probably find gears for an 8.75 you may be able to find 3.91s used in a wrecking yard if you look hard enough dont think you will find 4.10s used but stranger things have happened also the gears alone are the same price 3.91s or 4.10s from jegs so you could put 4.10s for the same price but that does not include the price of a sure grip so keep that in mind

get the intake very cold with a bag of ice and some good gas.
Back in the day I made a coil of copper tubing in a large coffee
can and filled it with dry ice under the hood and then to the carb and let it hit the engine
at about 36 degree's. Picked up 4 tenths on a 1/8 mile track.

This douse work well.

dude, your plans change daily. save the money for a 360. i have driven a camrao ss auto and 6 speed. they can woop ya. even with a 360, it'll be tough. a customer of mine has 4.10's in his 68 camaro with a 2000 camaro 6 speed and barely gets to use 6th gear at about 110 or something. your 318 will need higher compression, more cam, as well as the gear change to even come close to him. focus your money on the 360 and rear gears.

Ya,save your money for the 360,putting a 200 shot on a basically stock 318 will grenade that motor in a matter of time,and i've witnessed enough nitrous fires to keep me from ever touching that stuff,get it done Naturally aspirated with the 360,trust me its so much more fun smoking guys that are spraying when your not...

Spend the money on the 360 and get it done sooner, or put it towards gears.
If you don't have the 360 built yet, I really don't see how you have EXTRA money laying around.
Stay focused on your 360 and put EVERY dime into it and it will get done ALOT sooner than you think.
