Looking for suggestions on what Dial Indicator set, to purchase to degree a new cam with heads on 340 in car . I saw on previous discussions to use a solid lifter, in which I dont have. I looked at Mancini and they had a dial and a magnetic base, I already have wheel. I saw another site with what looked to be an attachment that slipped into the lifter bore, and then you place a dial on it. Suggestions?

Don't you have a junk lifter? Tear it apart, take out the plunger, spring, and use your head. some lifters you can just drop the top piece down in, and it hits a shoulder

If the intake isn't on it the ones that slip into the lifter bore sure make it easy and fast to get accurate readings. I have been using a standard magnetic base dial indicator setup for quite a few yrs. so I'm used to it but it's finicky to get set up good and straight to get super accurate readings.

IMO a $30 mag base may be just fine but I'd recommend a decent 0-1" indicator for it.
Mitutoyo, Starret, Federal, and Fowler come to mind.

I have the kit from Trick Flow. Seems to work fine. There are others that work well too.

I take one of the lifters I intend to run with the cam and gut it (save guts for reassemble later) and stack washers in until I get push rod cup up close to the top. Typically I degree the cam and do a push rod length measure around the same time so a mock up lifter is handy.

I have these for around $125. 1" travel, magnetic base. Made by Central. tmm
