Need help with rotor phasing

-
Like to give a update on this thread since a lots of people where good enough to give me help with this. I verified the balancer was correct with tdc. I purchased an adjustable rotor cap from jegs. I took the distributor cap that I had cut open the front so I could see where the rotor was firing on the terminal for # 1 plug inside the cap.It was firing on the trailing edge of the post. I then put the adjustable rotor on an aligned it with the post. Now the car does not kick back. Starts better, runs cooler and runs considerable better. This was a new msd 8388 vacuum distributor that was out of phase from the factory.

So where is your timing at now? Initial and total

Initial is 18. 32 total at 2500 rpm. And it used to kick back at these settings before. If you watch the msd videos on rotor phasing one of the symptoms you could have is the engine kicking back. Maybe since the compression is 175 psi you really noticed the kick back. That's all I did and it stopped doing it.
