need more tire somehow

8 inch wheels with 4 1/4 back space. you will get the widest tire on the car. I tried a 7 inch with a 3 /12 back space and 4 inch, the tire bulge would make them worse. Black 70 dart has 8 inch red 70 dart has 7 inch. 69 had 8's , check out the date on the 69 picture

VERY cool pics! What size tires were on those and did you have the relocation spring kit on them?

255/60-15's on Wheel Vintiques 15x7 with a 4.5" backspace. They are a tight fit on the quarter panel side. Trimming would help but I'm not doing that. I do have an extra leaf in the springs which raises it up a bit.

You are definitely limited on wheels. The tried and true combo for the dart body with a stock rear end/leaf location is 15x7 with 4.25” BS coupled with a 255/60r15.
Is this combo and 4.25 backspacing for an A-body with the 8 3/4 rear or 8 1/4 rear? They say the width was different between the 2 rearends, thats why i ask. Im about to order the wheels so need to be sure. thanks!!

The 8.75 from my experience.

Daily driver? If not go with the Wheel Vintique 15x8” and 255/60-15 drag radials .
I have that combo on my 69 340 4sp and hook well as long as I don’t drop the clutch at 5000 rpms . 500+ hp and 500 ft-lbs of torque.
And you have more room in your car .

I don’t recall if I got mine from WVs but I have a set for my 68 Fastback as well and they fit without modifying anything.

Com'on man, it's a 440.
Do you really think that on the street, 255s are gunna make a difference? or even 275s?
I think I see new bigger tubs in your future;
or a 2-barrel carb.............. lol.
I watched many, many cars this weekend in Vegas go high 4s in the 1/8th on a 8.5 radial. The x275 cars were dipping in to the mid/low 4s. So yes a 255 or a 275 can be made to hook, even on the street.

A LOT of FAST cars are going NINES on F 60 15 red lines. Ya just gotta know how.

72 dart 440, Got small bolt ralleys on it with 235/60/14 tires on the rear and they are too small..need more tire under there. From reading around on this site, it looks like i could get a 255/60/14 under there but i cant find that size in a 14 "..I thought about ordering a small bolt 15" ralley from wheel vintiques or something but not sure on the backspacing and all.. any ideas?

I was able to fit 255/60/15's in the back of my 68 fastback.
Those Duster guys are better off.

Fwiw on the back of my 67 Barracuda, stock 8 3/4, I had 15x7 4.5bs 255/60s.

Passenger side was a bit closer to the spring, typical for Mopars imo.
Once I put on a rear swaybar it caused a bit of tire rub on that side.

Now have bbp axles with 15x8 4.5bs 275/60s.
Same distance from springs as before but no rub on passenger side.

For what its worth....
A few weeks ago I would have said a 245 60 14 was the biggest 14 available. I found that GripMax now makes a 265 50 14.
It would be more than an inch wider than your 235. Do you have room?

Frankly, I'd run a 15" wheel with the biggest drag radial I could get under the car.

Fastbacks and Dusters have the same inner and outer wheel tubs. Barracuda’s, Demons, Dusters and Dart Sports are the same.

The hardtop, post and 4 doors have a narrower outer wheel tub by about 1”.

Thanks i always thought that the dusters had more room, and I thought you have a 275 in the back. (I haven't relocated my springs)

I have 295’s in the back but I have a 1/2” offset and I got rid of the “bump” in the outer wheel house because of my lowered ride height. I was able to fit 275’s before I moved anything though.

That is fixable with wheel spacers. I like wheels with too much backspace way more than not enough, cause spacers can put the tire EXACTLY where, you want it.
The problem with small bolt pattern is QUALITY billet spacers are really hard to find, and the 7/16 studs are a handicap. The spacers I use, are billet spacers I made, and I use 1/2 studs, or larger.
The first thing I would do in your place is look carefully at what you have now, to see where more tire is possible. Is the tire a half inch from the fender, and two inches from the spring? Measure the backspace you have now, and go from there.
The measurements to find out what you can use, are on YOU! We are not there. We can't know what fits, better than you.
