Love the Keystones
Yeah almost everyone used the Keystones because Chrysler had them make the wheels for the cars they were special for those cars rear had an offset so the slicks would not stand out from the rear fenders and the fronts were narrow for narrow skinny tires plus the lug bolt size.Love the Keystones
No never got to talk with him. The times I went to Reno for the air races it was with my good friend that was in the same Navy squadron. He was a A&P plus an instructor and did all fabric control surfaces for all the race planes mostly the Mustang's and was also crew with a Yak 3 with Pratt 1830 conversion. Got to mix with a number of folks with race planes. Met Steve Hinton, Bob Love and the Pond racer guys, tiger Destfani with Strega and dwight Thorne RR Merlin race engine builder.Ever swap notes with John Sandberg, builder of Tsnunami?

Here is a bit more of my history that will excite few folks. My dad owned a shop called Olsons Sports car Service in Salt Lake and I worked for him for alot of years our primary cars for repair were Jaguars and other British sports cars, eventually we got into Italian exotics Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini. We also became the satellite warranty an repair shop for Ferrari for Harrahs out of Reno. So yes I have worked on a lot of Ferrari's and some Lambo's and I have owned two Ferrari's one was a 1953 250mm, 0390mm SR#, ex works race car and the other was a 1964 250 GTE 2+2. I got the race car when I lived in Louisville Ky. after I got out of the Army stayed in KY and worked for the VW deal. they hired a guy as a service writer and his family owned a wrecking yard and he told me they had the ferrari in the yard so went to look bought the car for $1100.00 they had the complete car engine out and it was a rescue to kep it from being Chevy powered also had all the original paperwork, bill of sale, export, import papers, it was sold to factor race car driver Harry Shell it is believed it was his race car when he raced for the factory I will include some pictures. The 259 GTE turned out to be special also as it was built for Mr Ferrari to drive to the Nurbring F1 race so the factory put together a car, it was a 61 chassis, late 3ltr engine with a four speed trans with overdrive 64 330 body style and a 64 330 rear end, the car was later imported by Harrah's his wife Bobby Jo it was later pcked up by my friend we working with for the Ferrari deal he sold it to the guy I bought it from drove it as a daily driver for two years the sold and restored it for the President of the Jet Way corp. airplane boarding ramps in airports there home office was in Ogden Ut. Picture of it to.That's fantastic, you sound like you've lived an amazing life, well done to you. Closest I got to anything like that was occasional trips to Johns shop (He owned a company that rebuilt WIWII engines. ) for my boss a the time and was fortunate enough to be present when the bran new nose was installed after the first crash/repair of Tsunami. I do remember having the last (late 80's) set of virgin merlin heads in the back of my work truck. Story was they were dug up in Greenland out of the ice.
I'm really looking forward to reading more of your history.
Here is an addition to some of my other stuff it is a kool video of the owner driver of the Ferrari that I built the engine of in my avatar. He is driving a newer Ferrari F1 car with the Ferrari F1 clienti group the car is Barrichello's 2003 car it has a 3.0L "180 cu in" engine making 850hp at 18,000 rpm, and no they don't use valve springs the use air springs. Here is a bit more of my history that will excite few folks. For info those are four barrel Webers don't have picture of the GTE engine but it would look like the other one but with three two barrel Webers and a long air filter over all the carbs.

Here is a little something for you all to enjoy. It is a special Ferrari event at Road Atlanta in 2019 the Ferrari F1 Clienti group brought a bunch of private owned customer cars, the factory brings the cars and supports them just like a real formula team the owners also drive them. One owner had Marc Gene the Ferrari test driver drive his car to try and set a new Road Atlanta track lap record. At that time it was 1.06.02 he destroyed it dropped it down to 1.01.02 a 5 sec drop. It was in an ex Michael Shumaker 2994 car it had a 3.0 ltr V10 putting out 900+ hp at 19,000+ RPM.Crazy man. Crazy.
I was lucky enough to see these beasts up close at the Usgp Indianapolis. I went for probably 6 years consecutively. If you've never heard one of these up close you missed out. They absolutely thump your chest going by. The most incredible part was watching Michael schumacher in the braking zone. The braking force of an f1 car is incredible. I think these cars went 0-100-0 in under 6 seconds.@67Dart440GT Colin! Hay goat boy, you'll love this ^^^^ lol
That's unimaginable.I was lucky enough to see these beasts up close at the Usgp Indianapolis. I went for probably 6 years consecutively. If you've never heard one of these up close you missed out. Here's the link.
Yea they pull 5+G's under braking and at the same time pull 4+G's lateral force in the corner. That's unimaginable.
Sorry bout that I thought I had posted the correct link. I got to see them in 2004 at Laguna Seka when the F1 Clienti group came to the Monterey Historic's with 10 F1 cars, it was Ferrari's turn to be featured they also had 26 GTO's there the largest gathering of Ferrari GTO's in one place. This video is of Spa Franchorchamps in Belgium not Road Atlanta. Probably one of the best race tracks in the world along with Road America in Wisconsin!
Not with me in it. LOLYea they pull 5+G's under braking and at the same time pull 4+G's lateral force in the corner.

Here is the correct link for the Road Atlanta one.
The driver for that session was the factory test driver Marc Gene, you could tell just how hard he was pushing it by the high revs compared to the other drivers and also the cool down laps in between the two fast laps. The funny part is if these were being run in their prime by the factory mechanics at full song with schumacher or barichello at the time this would probably have been a 55 second lap record.
