New MSD E-Curve Distributor install, review, and pics

Oh, and outside of the wiper thing, how is it working for you?

So the benefit of this dizzy is that you can adjust the curve electronically? (Instead of the old spring and weight circus?)

Yes. You can open the cap and turn some small dials to get plenty of pre setup mechanical and vacuum curves. It has a vacuum port underneath the body that's run electronically. And it also have a rev limiter.

Problem is, to open the cap and access all those cool features I have to pull a few plug wires in a real tight area at the back of the motor. It's sort of rough on the boots.

The only thing it doesn't have is multiple spark.

Works fine. I'm running it just the temporary 360 I have in my Cuda. I wanted to test fitment, wiring's, and setup before I put it on my new motor.

That is an actual oscilloscope reading from the E-curve in my first post. Everything was rock solid. Or as rock solid as possible with an old small block timing chain (notoriously loose) and no chain tensioner.

Did the same for the 6.78 lbs Denso alternator conversion I'm going to run....Trying make sure everything is working and fits so it doesn't mess up my new motor.

finally a product made for the early A,,, wiper motor in side under the dash,,,just kidding,,i wonder if that disszy is as good or better the nthe billet with a msd 6 ? its all contained no out side brain required ??

It seems the wiper motor and early A's won't be an issue.

But fstfish66 and other early A-body owners, are the hood springs actually on top of the rear edge of the distributor cap?? See pictures below. Please confirm with your cars.

If so, measure from the block to the bottom of the hood springs when they are at the lowest position. The E-curve is 8 3/8 to the top of the male lug. Then you have to get a right angle boot over that.

good point i didnt think about the multi spark,,, didnt realize it had a vacuum advance either

But the dist can trigger a msd box, mine is firing a msd 7 al box.

I'm not too sure all msd stuff is made in the USA, its China now. Depending on the item. I dont know about these dist but my gut feeling is telling me its from China and MSD is making a nice profit on each dist.

I do know that my E Curve went out last summer, it would work by itself but not fire the MSD box. MSD tech said they can go bad like that and to send it in for "repair". They sell no repair parts other than the cap and rotor. So I did....MSD just send me a brand new dist for $177..likely their cost. They said they repaired it but it sure look brand new to me, even the new rotor.

So why I think these come right from China, who knows where or how.

You should be wary of yanking the boots off, the plug wires can break easily. After a few rev limiter adjustments, I swear the idle wasn't as smooth as before. I likely damage a few wires messing around with the cap.

How long did you have the E-curve before it stopped triggering the MSD box?

The only way to get the cap off or install/remove the distributor is taking wires off. ](*,)

I had it for a few years and screwed it up myself. Put a new engine in last summer and I set the timing by cranking the engine over with no plugs and rocker arms. Worked great but I left the plug wires all hanging without grounding them. Guess I blew something cause my timing light just flashed long enough for me to set the timing and stopped flashing.

My engine has dual Carters and its hard to move the cap out of the way cause my plug wires were off a Chevy race motor and could be a bit longer. So I was tugging at the wires, plus they were getting old.

They were Delphi Nascar shield wires. Ran one race the seller claims. Really nice for around $50 to your door.
