"No Budget" 1966 Valiant 100 straight axle GASSER

-
This thread is still rockin!! I'm on the straight axle kick as of recent...so that means I am even thinking about making my '70 Charger a gasser as well.

To hell with the naysayers, make youreself happy first!!

Heres some 8.8 U-bolts, old school shackles I cut off a '65 comet and one of the traction bars I'll be fabbin' for the valiant... Scrap yards are gold mines...

This will be some good rail metal to mount under the trunk floor to bolt the fuel cell straps to, light weight and super strong... Yep--- thats mobile home bed frame rails..

hahaha. awesome build GH!! Clever thought using the bed frame. Any junkyard or dump has atleast one hidden somewhere

I found this at the scrap yard, it took me a little while to figure out what it was, see if you guys can figure it out.... Someone obviously had to much time on their hands during welding class....

Is it someones welding course practice piece? Plinko game? A dog with a bone(r) reading a dirty magazine?

I think you got the welding practice and bone (r) right.. We got some wild metal art work in, one was a 5 foot tall devil with leaf spring rib cage, it looked awesome, completly build from car parts..

Which yard did you visit? Any old Mopar stuff there??

And since I got the tip that an A100 Axle is not as long as a d100 axle; could you measure the axle you have? thanks!

The scrap yard is in Spruce Pine, Mitchell County, thay crush about as fast as thay bring them in... The A-100 axle I'm going to have to narrow about 5-1/2" to fit under my valiant.. I'll PM you some measurements this evening....

Anyways, I took a break today, I'm going to start back on the floorpans tomorrow....

Enjoy your Monday Hornet :happy10: I know it was a hot HOT Strong end here :angry7: But it's not to bad outside now, I may do some mowing this evening , Victoria has not moved off the hill in over a week so I need to take her out and stretch her legs, I may drive buy Jerry's place for the Halibut :-D

Sounds like Victoria needs a little cruise time today, it's cooled off here quiet a bit.. I've gotta haul off some junk to the landfield then I'm gonna start on some floorpans...

This will be the gassers tow truck, I'll haul it to the strip with a drag along trailer.. All it needs is the front disc brake conversion and a heavy duty hitch.. I built this truck for about $1,000, low mile 350 goodwrench crate engine with a new rebuilt turbo-400, 3.73 gear....

It's 102 degree's out side and I keep loosing my internet :angry7:
I am staying in today where it's 8)
To hot to get outside and move around much, and I agree :happy10: That 63 will do the job well :-D

I tried making this post two times, let's see if it makes it this time

For a grand, you have done well on the tow rig!
BTW thanks for the measurement on the axle!!

I know where the disc brake conversion is for the 63, just gotta go take it off, I think it'll be cool to keep the tow rig, trailer and Valiant gasser ERA correct... Hope those measurements were clear, really couldn't get a good back plate to back plate measurement..
