I'm not getting any response to this down in the electrical forum so I thought I would post it here where there are more lookers.

I am getting close to starting the Demon for the first time.
It is a 360, .040 over, 10.5:1 comp, xe268h cam and 1.6 rockers. 727 trans reverse manual valve body, 2800 stall and 4:10's with 26" tires.

I will be running all MSD ignition. 6AL box, Blaster2 coil and 8534 Dist.
The only added electrical will be the typical guages and a modest music box. Other than that it is a bare bones build. Although I do plan on some good headlights.

Here's the questions.

What springs would you start with on the counter weights in the distributor, and what initial timing, keeping in mind that performace is the number one priority.

I need an alternator, what do you guys recommend keeping in mind that I will be buying it at the local parts store?

I have decided to mount the 6AL on the pass. inner fender. Is there a problem with that?

What type of headlights? (silverstars)?

Jack

If you a running a mechanical secondary carb I would install the lightest set of springs it comes with. This will bring you all in by 2000rpm. :burnout:

I would get a 75 to 100 amp alternator. Stock amperage sucks, but you already know this.

6al on top of the passenger inner fender wall should be far enough away from the headers to run cool enough and should be fine.

Headlights I would suggest Not the Silverstars, but the next step down.

I bought my Alt at Advance Auto Parts,
I got the highest amp small case they had in stock,
it was only like $ 10. extra over the 50 amp.

Thanks Tony, I will check it out. I hope it is clearer than the stuff that came with distributor. It was clear as mud. LOL

cavemanmoron,
Thanks, that is the exact alternator I was looking at. As far as the headlights go, I don't need to see to tomorrow but I do like to see as far as I can at night. You know, deer and moose walking the roads around here.

The MSD box was mounted on my passanger fender when it was removed Jack

As far as headlights go I couldnt find the Silverstars at the time but wish I could have as an apples to oranges comparison I have the silverstars in my 98 Dak and wow are they ever nice! Make sure you aim the headlights in.... and not just agaisnt a wall sort of thing. I used the ehadlight aimer we have at work and it helps a lot to get the beams working together

Thanks 71Duster,

I am hoping to get this thing fired up this weekend. I am even taking a day and a half of vacation time to work on the car. The only thing I am worried about with the silverstars is how many amps they draw. I don't want to over tax this old wiring.

Jack

I think the big misconception with GOOD bulbs is what they draw... From my understanding they dotn draw any more power they just work more efficently, different gasses inside the blulb, they are also a different colour of light intensity rather then the yellow light most bulbs have they are supposed to be closer to daylight. The wattage and amperage are all the same still so they dont use anymore power.

Hey Jack, glad to see the cars coming along. If you're worried about your headlight wiring, I would go with relays. Even when using the stock type bulbs you will see a difference when you go direct from the battery thru a relay. Pretty easy modification. I got conversion housings for my cars so I can use the H4 type bulbs. A lot more choice in wattage/color temps.

Hey Craig!
I haven't seen you here for a while. My guess is that you've been making to much money there in Vegas. LOL
There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the wiring but that relay upgrade looks like a good idea anyway.

71Duster and cavemanmoron,
Hit me in the head again, silverstars, silverstars, silverstars
